Same as last week - signs of brilliance counteracted with signs of very average play.

Matthews has been harping on about fitness all week, now he has me wondering if we're fit enough to hold them out?

McVeigh sprays.

We're moving the ball well at the moment but AGAIN we're not putting the score on the board. McVeigh missed 2 easy shots now.

There is no way that was 50 against Michael. He was ALREADY in the air. Sorry, umpire, if you've mastered the art of changing direction while you're already in the air... but I'm pretty sure Michael hasn't.

Slats just missed.... I'm not happy about this at all. We're only a goal up and we're dominating the run of play... because we've been missing in front.

One of the areas identified as a must improve in order to be a competitive team....

Half Time
Ess 7.10.52
Bris 5.8.38

Still anyone's game. We aren't playing well enough to put comfortable space between us and Brisbane.

I'm also really worried about Lloyd for the rest of 2007. He's not right. Who the hell's gonna kick our goals? Lovett's out for 4 weeks. That leaves a very heavy burden on Lucas who is suddenly out of form.

Half Time

14 points in it. We dominated play although Brisbane had some moments where they looked very good (although they looked shocking for a lot of it).

Our problem? Kicking for goal. Simple as that. Could have buried Brisbane by now if we kicked straight but haven't.

Concerns? Lloyd's hamstring. He looks very restricted.

Hird is still playing like a master, although he was floating around halfback for the latter part of that quarter. McVeigh was looking ultra dangerous up forward but couldn't convert. Kicked 1 from 3... and the one he kicked was the hardest of the lot.

I rather seeing Hirdy in the forward line these days.

Agreed with the aforementioned points that we could've and should've buried them by now.

Watson on 16 disposals, Hird on 14, McVeigh on 14.

The good thing is we're controlling general play and we are forcing them to play slow stop start footy...which is what I thought we mastered?

Keep up the supply and we'll kill them.

bomberflyer, that's true we have controlled a great deal of the play - but unfortunately we've been keeping up the supply but the recievers aren't bloody doing anyhting with it once they get it. We really need to work on the accuracy atm.

We're been running hard whereas Brisbane have been forced to stop and prop to find ways forwards. They're only 2 goals down and done a lot less running (since we're running back hard to stop them going forward).

Our lack of score on the board and poor goal kicking is going to be telling. I think we're going down even though we've looked the better team thus far. Why? We're going to run out of puff and they'll roll us. They'll also kick straighter and we'll pay for our poor skills ... once again.

Prove me wrong boys.

Relatively happy with first half. Looks like we've actually come up with a game plan for this week, and the players seem more committed to actually carying it out. Got some run and carry in the legs which is good to see; been sorely lacking in recent weeks, and out or attack on the ball and the opposition is much improved. If only our finishing skills were better...

Hirdy's killing 'em, Hille has been terrific, McVeigh looks very dangerous up forward, and Pev is keeping Blacky pretty quiet. Been quite happy with Campo and Cole too, amongst others.

Ok Lloyd is a back injury apparently, a knock in the back - according to our medical staff.

Would certainly actually fit in with what I said earlier about the work on the lower back, if that were true. IF.
