The sad thing about Jay Neagle is...

the highlight of his AFL career is being referenced in a Dennis Commetti pun "Stanton somehow found the Neagle in a hay stack".

To make matters worse 2 minutes later Neagle takes a great lead up mark and Bruce highlughts Jay's obvious obesity and as Bruce is outlining his general lack of match conditioning Jay turns the ball over and Bruce remakes "he does that doesnt he"!

There was a contest not long after that where Stants kicked it over Jay's head but instead of chasing after it... he sort of stopped and jogged and the Saints player took the ball away.

Jay needs to get serious next pre-season or its curtains for him...

Are you familiar with what obesity actually is?

Most laughable post ever.

The boys not even fat, let alone obese.

The term is called EXAGGERATION. But since you have taken my comment literally I will justify it. Answers.com defines obesity as:
"Obesity is an abnormal accumulation of body fat, usually 20% or more over an individual's ideal body weight. Obesity is associated with increased risk of illness, disability, and death".

In relation to his AFL peers Neagle's body fat is abnormal, this is obvious enough for the commentators to do what they do, make comments! In terms of risk of illness, disability and death, the illness refers to his attitude, the disability is his inability to do repeat efforts and the death is his career"!

PS. I think i might be a bad person

Again, did some things tonight which I thought were very good - very nice hands, quick work in close, some good grabs. Kicked 2 goals and apart from the one bad kick refered to in the OP was ok, overall

perhaps you should look at the game again - just a friendly suggestion :)

90% of Neagle's issues do not lie below the shoulders.

If he gets his mindset right, and his health right, the rest will look after itself. He's not at the peak of match fitness or general fitness, but that is all issues that can be addressed when he is able to do a pre-season and willing to do it hard. Just because he is unfit doesn't make him fat.

I had to laugh at one of his contests (albeit, late in the game), Docklands side on the Lockett 50, the ball was kicked over his head and him and his opponent (of similar size) looked like the two slowest people on the ground having a race to the ball. But looking above and beyond isolated instances, he contributed across the whole game. And that's all you can expect at this point.

He was good tonight. He isn't fat either, he seems to have quite a solid upper body but has really skinny legs which probably make him look overweight.

Apart from "the body", it's the body language and the attitude that is of most concern. If he wants to succeed, he will. It's all up to him.

Well said Windy...I also thought he did quite a few nice things but it's too hard for a few people around here to actually admit that he can play the game.

always had alot of time for Neagle. There is no doubt he can play, but when you see him play he just looks unfit. And I dont mean his body shape. I mean he cant run much and just looks tired alot.

Neagle could be busting up packs and taking big marks on the regular if was fit. And the thing is when you arent fit you make costly errors because you are that spent. Now everyone gets tired but Neagle gets tired VERY quickly.

I agree with others in here he needs to work on his fitness big tme still.

Jay Neagle (Fat Blimp) vs Jon Brown (AFL Wunderkid)

First 25 Games

Neagle - 39 Goals
Brown - 23 Goals (including 1 game where he kicked 7 - so in fact Brown only had 16 goals in his first 24 games)

Brown has Voss, Black, Akermanis, Power, Lappin etc banging the ball down his throat!!

I am pretty happy with the way big Jay is going
