Bombers Drawn G/F 1948

Just had a discussion with my old uncle , a passionate Bomber supporter , who was at the 1948 drawn grand final against Melbourne.
We kicked an APPALLING 7 goals 27 (yes Twenty Seven) behinds 69 Pts.to Melbourne 10 - 9 - 69.
Apparently we dominated play but could'nt buy a goal. In the dying seconds we were a point up when a Melbourne player (Norm Smith I believe) punched the ball through his own goal from a ball up to level the scores. We had a few injuries & could'nt field our strongest side the folllowing week plus having a psychological let down we lost the replay by 39 points.
My poor old uncle was depressed for weeks after.
However the 40's & early 50's was a golden era for the Bombers. Winning the Premiership in 42 , 46 , 49 , 50 . Runners Up in 41 ,43 , 47 , 48 , 51 , 57 , 59 . Apart from the 48 debacle in 47 we lost when a scum player kicked a goal over his head from the boundary in the dying seconds to put the scum in front & in 51 the great Coleman was suspended for 4 weeks on finals eve resulting him being unable to play in the G/F which we lost to Geelong by 10points.
With a little luck we could / should have won a least 2 more flags in that era. We should remind our current list of the history of our great club & determination & dedication required for them to play in a successful team. Failure is not an option.
