Not sure what this means...

Post by gringo »

...Essendons victory against Adelaide last week was the second greatest comeback from half-time in the Crows history at 36 points.

The greatest comeback against the Crows was of course the 1993 preliminary final, where Essendon came back from 42 points at half time.

Last week the final margin was 11 points to the Dons.

In 1993, the final margin was..... 11 points.

The following week in 1993, Essendon took an underrated, young team up against a highly fancied Carlton.

In 2011, Essendon will again take an underrated, young team up against a highly fancied Carlton.

And we all remember what happened in 1993!!!
Like sand through the hour glass, so are the days at the Essendon Football Club.

This season has been packed full of coincidences, and similarities to 1993.

Why not Blonde Bombshell?

I do remember being uptight even at the 20 minute mark of the last quarter we wouldn't make it until a neutral supporter sitting next to me said "Its all ok mate...you've got it!"

Those last 10 minutes were bliss then. 8)

Fletcher. Watson. Some young blonde guy playing well above his experience.

And in 1993, the first time we played Carlton, it was a DRAW!

What a magnificent season - from Round one, when we fell over the line in time on against Fitzroy.

Hird, Mercuri, Misiti, Fletcher, Olerenshaw - demonstrating the courageous audacity of youth.

Derek Kickett - doing whatever he wanted whenever he wanted (except in the finals series which ultimately cost him a place at the big dance).

The Preliminary Final - what a game - what a comeback - what a noise and celebration when we won.

The G.F - Pure Bliss!!!!

A roller-coaster season. The greatest ride of all.

And in 1993, when we drew with Carlton, we lost to Collingwood the following week by 30 points. Same as this year.....

And in 1993 our fixture went:

Carlton X2
Collingwood X2
Sydney X2
Bulldogs X2
West Coast X2

Same as this year

Only difference being 1993 we played Geelong twice this year we played Richmond twice. (of these we won 1 and lost 1 vs Geelong and this year did the same Vs Richmond).

2nd time around our fixture is identical to 1993.

Carlton
Collingwood
Sydney
Footscray

though we won teh minor premiership in 93.

I don't like to compare any years to premiership years, it will only end in tears.

I thought that was in round 10 or so. In Round 1 we went to Perth to play the reigning premiers and lost by 10 points, Bewick kicked 8.

1993 was the last time Carlton beat Sydney at the SCG, and they did it again this year.

@LR - We are taking the piss, it's all good fun.
