Clubs' travel to WANG..
Clubs' travel to WANG..
Was listening to Brayshaw & Billy on Triple M today. They mentioned the modes of travel the two clubs are utilising.
St Kilda - a bus that will take around 4 hours.
Essendon - a jet with an estimated flying time of 27 minutes.
Bet the St Kilda players are impressed.

Re: Clubs' travel to WANG..

Yeah well the jokes on us.
They're back in Melbourne.
The bloody planes couldn't land because of the weather.
What a circus.
Re: Clubs' travel to WANG..
If they were unable to lane due to the weather, you could expect the ground must be under a foot of water!!!
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark
Re: Clubs' travel to WANG..
They've had a second crack at landing, apparently, but the game has been called off according to a couple of sources. My old man and his brother are in Wang now, they'll be pissed!

Confirmed on afl.com.au:
TONIGHT'S NAB Cup game between Essendon and St Kilda in Wangaratta has been cancelled.
Two planes carrying Essendon were forced to return to Melbourne after being unable to land in Wangaratta, which has been drenched by rain throughout the week.
St Kilda took a bus to the ground, while the Bombers opted to fly.
A statement from the AFL said: "The club's flights to Wangaratta were unable to land, despite a number of attempts, and the team has returned to Melbourne and will not be able to reach the ground, even with a delay of the scheduled start time of up to 60 minutes.
"As the club was unable to reach the venue, the match will be declared a draw with two points awarded to each team under NAB Cup rules.
"All patrons who bought a ticket for tonight's game will be eligible for a full refund. Patrons who purchased a ticket via credit card will have the amount automatically refunded to their personal account within five (5) days, while patrons with cash sales should return with their tickets to the point of purchase after 12pm Monday March 5, for a refund.
"Separately, the AFL wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the St Kilda Football Club, which has indicated late today that it will conduct a training session at the ground for the benefit of those patrons who had already reached the venue before tonight's scheduled start at 7pm."

Re: Clubs' travel to WANG..
Let them bitch. It's not our problem their shit clubs can't even afford to get a flight so they have to bus in crappy circumstances.
Player safety -> daylight -> more daylight -> stupid pre season game.
Sorry JP, but anyone who made the trip up there knowing the weather was shit, has no right to bitch when the game is called off because the weather is shit.
I support the clubs decision.

The game was never going to happen with the extreme weather all week.

I guess that is why they came out and pretty much guaranteed that it would be on? Guess that is my fault?Megan wrote:Let them bitch. It's not our problem their shit clubs can't even afford to get a flight so they have to bus in crappy circumstances.

I have no issue with it being cancelled, but don't come out and commit to playing, even with the weather conditions. They must have know that there might be issues taking a flight.
Re: Clubs' travel to WANG..
As late as this afternoon, the AFL, CASA and the charter company all thought that there would be no issue with flying up there.
Based on this advice, the club should have done no different to what they did.

Re: Clubs' travel to WANG..
God I hope this happens. The calls led to the AFL appearing to change their mind on sharing the points, releasing a statement to say they may toss a coin to find the winner.
"If a Pre-Season Competition Match is unable to commence for reasons beyond the control of the Club, the General Manager - Football Operations shall endeavour to reschedule the Match so that a result can be obtained," The statement said.
"If the Match cannot be rescheduled, the winner will be decided by the toss of a coin."
Further down, the statement says each club will be given an opportunity to state their case.
"Each club will be given the opportunity to provide its view to the AFL on whether the match was unable to commence for reasons beyond Essendon’s control. A final determination will then be made by the AFL."
