Come on Sammy Lonergan, time to make a statement. Let's show all the doubters what you can do

Rapt that Sammy gets a run and also Carlisle on the backline. Given that we will never probably field our best team due to injuries, this looks like a bloody good line up

Carlisle is in the best 22 so not sure why he didn't play last week.

Shame about Hocking, but I like the ins.

Hopefully Monfries and Myers lift (or eventually get dropped) with Hocking and Winderlich to come back.

What on earth does he need to prove?
Unless people are thinking he should be an elite running midfielder...which he aint never going to prove, because that's not his value.
I'm perfectly happy with what he brings to the football field - he's an in and under type and works damn hard week in and week out.

Yeah, agree.

No surprises with the inclusions for the injured duo. Both replacements play a similar style of game. I like Carlisle. Or, I like what I've seen of Carlisle in his short career. Lonergan is a bulldozer. I love that sort of player. He's the perfect replacement for Buddha.

And rearely gets acknowledged for that.

Frankly, I reckon he brings more than just being an in and under type and I am hoping he proves my point

I think in this day and age the concept of best 22 is coming in question. Football has become so fast and so physically demanding, especially on young players, that these occurrence of players coming in and out of the team should be expected.

Perhaps we need to consider a core group of seasoned individuals around 12-15 that play week in week out with the occasional week off and then, around the outside of these guys, are many rotations of line ups. Maybe selection decisions will move to being like interchange rotations. 5 years ago Hird got annoyed he was "dragged" by Sheeds but now players relish the rests they get.

The natural attrition of players through injuries will force many changes but I really think this area is changing.

The key is to have everyone who comes in and out of the team playing to the game plan and being able to execute that game plan. This is why I was so happy with last week. For much of the game we dominated the play, were on top and we played on our terms. Furthermore I think we have slowed down from a pure pace point of view but have quickened up from a ball movement point of view.

It's got me baffled how so many keep saying "Carlisle is in our best 22". He's played something like 6 games FFS. And showed nothing in the preseason, hence why he didn't play last week. ****loads of potential, but just not quite there yet.

Gimps, I think Hooker deserved his spot last week ahead of Carlisle as he is a more senior player and his form wasn't bad. Having said that Carlisle was very good at CHB when he did get the oppertunity late last year and I think most people expect he will be better this year with another pre - season under his belt. The guy has a truckload of potential and was on fire last week for Bendigo. Is he in the best 22? We might find out in the next couple of weeks.

Exactly right. Potential is there, just needs to prove his worth.
