1984
Re: 1984
An absolute must watch for anyone who didn't live through it (well, even if you did!). This was the greatest ever feeling I've ever experienced following the Bombers. It takes some sort of team to beat the Hawthorn unit of the 80's - and we did it back to back.
Can't wait to watch it.

Re: 1984
oh for those days to return - awesome.
Re: 1984
f*** me!!! Did that get me going.
Easily the greatest Essendon game I have ever seen (with a flag at the siren, a 19 year drought broken and the humiliation of the previous year overcome)
.....and by the way, the most exciting passge of play culminating in my man excecuting the famous blind turn and putting us in front. Never before or since have I gone through the roof to the degree of that moment.
Never get tired of watching the game and will tune in Sunday morning with great interest.

Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

Re: 1984
A period in which you missed the greatest of feelings as a Bomber supporter. It was an awakening from a coma the club was induced in for many years. The same sort of period we are currently experiencing. But back then, you could sense the ruthlessness that was emerging and the legends that were about to be made.JP_32 wrote:What are the 80s?

Re: 1984
Here's something to wet your appetites;
We were annihilated by Hawthorn in the 1983 Grand Final. We made the GF from 5th position, and a 14 year old footy nut became too optimistic about our chances. I ended up a shattered kid. I locked myself in my room for the rest of the weekend, and did not want to go to school on Monday. I knew what confronted me - and I copped it.
We finished on top in 1984. But Hawthorn beat us the two times we played in the home & away season. We just couldn't beat the fuckerz. Then we met them in the 2nd semi final - in what has been described as the greatest ever finals match. We lost by 8 points. I was absolutely gutted, and quite distressed. We threw everything at them. "WE JUST CAN'T BEAT THE FUCKERZ!!" I smashed my transistor radio. At least we had another shot at it the following week against Collingwood in the Prelim (which we won by a record margin)
So then it came to another Grand Final against these pricks. I was absolutely nervous as f***. And when they piled on 4 unanswered goals at the start of the game - I thought "here we f****** go again!!!!"
The nerves at the start of the last quarter was unbelievable. I was shaking, pacing, and almost pissing myself. When Baker kicked the goal to hit the front, I went absolutely ballistic. I've never heard so much emotion come out of my mouth ever since that moment. Even after the final siren - as I was emotionally exhausted by then. It was the GREATEST day I have ever experienced as a Bomber fan. I don't know how I would have ended up mentally if we lost that day. Seriously.
But I marched into school that Monday, walking tall and with an air of arrogance. Beaming with pride, it was a glorious day looking at the glum looks on the faces of Hawthorn supporters and the look of envy amongst all others.

Re: 1984
Still by far the best game ever for me. After so many years in the wilderness...
Amongst other things, I remember taking the train home on the Broady line afterwards. The whole carriage was singing "see the bombers fly up" and complete strangers were hugging each other and carrying on like lunatics. Great memories.

Ah, ok. I can't understand why this game is not available on name a game or anywhere else. What is wrong with the muthafuckers who have rights to this material?robrulz5 wrote:It was only an hour long, they showed some highlights then part of the last quarter.BenDoolan wrote:WHAT!!!??? f***!robrulz5 wrote:That 2nd Semi was on Fox Footy yesterday.
