Interim Coach for 2014

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Interim Coach for 2014

Post by BenDoolan »

Heard Mark McVeigh on SEN being questioned by Fartlett about who he thought should be the interim coach next season. He basically said;

He wouldn't go with Bomber Thompson because his heart is not in it. Great assistant to listen to, but doesn't believe Bomber has the fire to be the senior coach again. He said Mark Harvey is the obvious choice. EFC would welcome him back with open arms and thinks Harvs would love to be the interim coach for 12 months - and happy to handover to Hird when he returns and take a senior assistant role. He also said he would obviously carry out the coaching program as desired by Hird / Bomber.

Very interesting. Sounds like things are heading this way. I don't mind it at all. What do others think?

I like the idea of Goodwin doing it, would develop his skills and abilities and depending on how it goes could provide an ideal succession plan for when James has had enough. Can't see James staying on more than a couple of years. Bomber could provide a mentoring role, similar to what he was employed to do for Hird. I take him at face value, in that he left the Cats because being senior coach was wearing him down and he didn't want the pressure any more. A look at him last week showed the pressure is obviously back. Hope he stays, has a lot to offer.

Probably a good move, but I wouldn't be disappointed if Goodwin gets it, as long as when (if) Hird comes back he's doesn't sook if he stays.

Also N Daniher will be staying at WC next year.

Given the fact that who ever gets the job will follow the Hird-Thompson plan then I guess either Goodwin or Harvey would be ok. If I was to make a choice I would take Goodwin as he probably has a better knowledge of the plan and players.

O'donnell/Harvey either or both I feel will be at efc next year in the coaches box. People will say I am absoluetly nuts here but I would take on Voss as well.

I also think Hird won't be back in 12 months. My thoughts are he'll take a media job and rebuild his image. Bomber might actually retire this time or stick around as a mentor at the dons.

O'Donnell? They guy was an absolute pickle when he was in charge of our "defensive actions" about 4 years ago. Absolutely no way should he be back at the club in any coaching role.

You're nuts just for suggesting him. And then Voss....

Either one of Thompson, Harvey or Goodwin would suit me fine.

As long as there is continuity in regards to structures/game plan and so on.

I would have odonnell in corcharans old job.

Harvey as Senior coach and keep bomber. If keeping it an all essendon affair.

Otherwise why dont we give Neil Craig a call. experienced coach, very sympathetic to our current plight.

We cannot hand the reins to a rookie.

Craig holds a sports science degree
...but then again that coud be viewed as a great or a disaster of a pr spin.

Its a bit tongue in cheek. Craigs a druggy too. Doped up the cows with his good mate geoff walsh from aust. Cycling in the 90s(opinion no fact i am sure its complete BS rumours). Got em strong enough to win two flags.

Its no surprise to see the Demons being investigated.

The club should appoint Stephen Dank as interim coach to really piss off the AFL. There's no reason why we can't, the AFL has not charged Dank for conduct unbecoming.

Dank is reported to be holidaying in the UK and has been seen at high profile football clubs, chatting amicably to old friends. So much for air tight legislation to MAKE him testify. Not a good look, for an on-going "alleged" investigation which seems to be all over, red rover. That's a red rover, roll over.

Whoever we get as an interim coach, will have to put up with, us being booed as drug cheats all year. So much for self reporting! We have NO guarantees at all that 2014, will be all that much different to 2013.

Voss would be a great midfield coach if Goodwin steps up to senior coach.

I reckon Vossy would be too proud a man & wouldn't go from senior coach back down to assistant. If he isn't coaching the Eagles next season I reckon he will be in the media :)

I'd love either Goodwin or Harvs in the job next year!

Voss said last week that he would be willing to go somewhere as an assistant.

Voss and Hird in the same coaching box? Not sure that will work.

Harvs over Goodwin for me. We need a cleanskin who is no way related to what happened with the supplements program.

Stick with Goodwin as he knows what is going on at Bomberland. If Bomber has had enough then ask Harvs to be senior assistant.

To those who touted Gary O'Donnell, he never went after a senior coaching job.

What about a Harves Thompson ticket in 2014.

Then a Hird Harves ticket 2015?

Ie harvey takes bombers job and bomber retires conpletely at end of 2014?
