I thought that he was better than quite good.

He was as steady as rock considering he was surrounded with inexperience especially when Bags went down.

Was rapt to firstly hear he was reconsidering and then to hear he has signed up for another crack.

More good news from a team that people want to belong to.
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

Yes. Assistant coach ultimately. Young guns so lucky to have senior players with so much experience on hand. Welcome aboard!

Will be strange for him going out next year for Essendon with the whole team back plus our brilliant newbies. That'll be a thrill he deserves for all his hard work =D>

It'll probably have some challenges. He's been so good and so well accepted this year that any challenges for him and the returning players have coming back into this different group should be smooth sailing.

The 2016 team has endured an unusual year and will be an entirely different beast next season. The effects of the year off on the returnees will be interesting to watch.

I hopefully expect the whole team jells to form a juggernaut that wants to show the world something special. The rhetoric has been extremely positive and almost celebratory as each player has confirmed their individual return. I expect Kelly as a senior leader type to continue that role only next year he'll have a different level of support.

2017 will be an exciting season foR the EFC.

Equal runner up in the Crighty with Big Joe is testament to the fact that he was better than quite good.

Hopefully he will see very little of the ball next year.

Future coach in waiting - great that we can hold on to him for a little longer.
My material isn't very good..Oh...and then there's the bladder problem.

Dea calls it a day
Sep 2, 2019 5:15PM

Essendon defender Matt Dea has today announced he will retire at the end of the Bombers’ 2019 campaign.

The 27-year-old informed his teammates of his decision on Monday morning.

Dea played 31 games for Richmond before joining Essendon in 2016, going on to play 39 games in the red and black.

Hailing from Mildura, the widely respected Dea grew up playing for Clarendon College before being drafted to the Tigers in the 2009 national draft. The following year, the defender went on to make his debut for Richmond in round four.

Given an opportunity to join the Bombers in 2016, Dea made a quick impact on the playing group in his first year, with his contribution on and off the field earning him an additional two-year contract at the club.

Awarded the Adam Ramanauskas Most Courageous Player Award at Essendon in 2016 and 2018, Dea was re-recruited to the Bombers in 2019 after being taken with pick No.17 in the rookie draft.

The versatile backman said the time was right to hang up the boots after 70 AFL games.

“I want to acknowledge both the Essendon and Richmond Football Clubs for the opportunity to live out my dream of playing AFL. Thank you to my friends and family that have supported me through the highs and the lows across my 10 years in the system,” Dea said.

“Although my journey at Essendon is coming to an end, I am excited for what the next chapter holds.

“Essendon is in a strong position and I wish everyone at the Club the best of luck. I’m looking forward to watching what the Bombers can achieve over the next few years.”

Senior coach John Worsfold thanked Dea for his commitment to the club.

“Matt has been the ultimate clubman since arriving at Essendon. Not only is he a great leader, he is a wonderful person and has contributed significantly to our culture,” Worsfold said.

“Although Matt arrived in a challenging period for the club, he was able to provide tremendous leadership to his younger teammates and support their development.

“On behalf of the club, I wish Matt all the best in the next chapter of his life.”
Pity - one of my fave players. No nonsense, straight at it. Honest.

Thanks for your efforts Matty. Hope the future is bright.

Update: Apparently about to join Henno as a member in the constabulary ... Staying a defender I see

Another one who I respect for his service to the club. Gave it his all. Put his body on the line and busted his guts. I don’t think he actually played a bad game at the club. 2 x Most Courageous award winner. Thanks for your efforts Matty =D>
