Travel weekends to consider...
Lions at the Gabba, rd 2 April 1
Crows at Adelaide Oval, rd 4 April 15
Dockers at Domain Stadium, rd 7 May 7
Giants at Spotless Stadium. rd 11 June 3
Sydney at the SCG, rd 14 June 23
Gold Coast at Metricon, rd 22 Aug 19

I'd prefer the Lions more mid season...warmer weather for a few days is always nice mid winter.

MCG 7 games, Donlands 9 games...would prefer more then less..

Six Sunday games :( , but none twilight :)

Not complaining. However, this unbelievable Sydney in Sydney shit is doing my head in. I've lost count the amount of games we've played them up there compared to down here since 2000. It really does PISS ME OFF.

If that's the AFL explanation, I'd like to present them this;

Crowds Essendon v Sydney

2005: Venue Syd 31K, Venue Mel 41K

2006: Venue Mel 45K, Venue Syd 25

2007: Venue Syd 26K

2008: Venue Syd 38K

2009: Venue Syd 31K

2010: Venue Syd 29K

2011: Venue Syd 28K, Venue Mel: 38K

2012: Venue Mel 42K

2013: Venue Syd 29K

2014: Venue Mel 42K, Venue Syd 36K

2015: Venue Syd 23K

2016: Venue Syd 29K

They've never cracked the 40K mark up there. We cracked it 4 of the 5 times we've played them in Melbourne (in the sample above)

What's our crowds in Melbourne got to do with the point I made?

We get sent there because we'll draw more then if they send the smaller clubs.

Well der Fred.

I wonder what the schedule for other 'high crowd pulling' club bs are like over the same journey.

Plus, I just quickly checked 10 years ago (2006) crowd numbers for other "smaller clubs" up in Sydney that season. Melbourne, St. Kilda, North Melbourne and Geelong all pulled bigger crowds up in Sydney than us. Not going to bother checking other seasons as we have been pretty crap for over a decade...

I think his point is simply if the AFL was only interested in cold numbers then there would be no argument that more Syd v Ess games would be played in Melb

In my opinion, its probably a case os Sydney actually requesting home games against Ess, Car, Col to deal with sponsor and fan perception that they are one of the "big teams"

Irony of course is that Ess, Col and Car largely stink and have done so for some time

The point is, Essendon v Sydney draws a bigger crowd in Melbourne than it does in Sydney. So if they're concerned about crowd numbers, play it here more often than there :-"

And your other point - we draw bigger crowds for them in Sydney than other "smaller clubs" seems a bit false.

Its not about crowd numbers in Melbourne though we'll get a big turnout no matter who plays.

Its about crowd numbers in Sydney. That was my point.

And in the last 20 years we're their 3rd highest draw card in Sydney behind only Collingwood and West Coast so mah mate. Its not false.

Ok, I'LOL check myself.

I already know that over the last 10 times we've played in Sydney, we've averaged a crowd of 29.4K.

I'll check the others...

8th table down says since 97 ;).

We go North more then others because we boost crowd figures in the non traditional markets.

The sample is too big. You need to break it down by decade. I'll wear that we drew more crowds up in Sydney because we were great in the 90's to early 2000's. It would stand to reason why we'd play more games up there in that period. But the last decade has been scheizenhausen, and so have our crowds up in Sydney compared to others.

I just checked Geelong's last 10 years up there and they've averaged a crowd of 32.8K compared to our 29.4K. So that's another club to add to Collingwood and West Coast above us. I'll keep checking...

Prick Koch, got his way with the China Fixture.

Ended up being Gold Coast selling one of their Home Games to Power.

It's what happens, when the Ablett Drawcard doesn't drag 'Em through the gates, the way they hoped.

Ablett must been thinking lately," Why the f*** did I even bother?!"

 Benny that sample isn't to big as it demonstrates what happens when teams are flying AND when they're down.

Last 10 years Geelong have had huge bandwagon fans and they only get 3k more? You've just cherry picked their most successful period and they've barely beaten us.

Mate you do realize you're making the argument we aren't one of the biggest clubs in Australia here?

Like O'Meara & Prestia, he has barely set foot on the field and when he has, it has shown how match unready he was coming back from his injuries...
Can't pull a crowd when you don't play and your team is going shit because you have so many injuries...
That said I still think the Giants recruited more wisely...
