OH NO HE DIDN'T!!!

Post by BenDoolan »

This is dedicated to those who made big predictions on players who never made it. One inspirational bloke gave me the idea to do this. I'll start with myself predicting Tayte Pears will become a champion and play for 10 years...
BenDoolan wrote: Sun Apr 11, 2010 10:48 am This bloke is a gun. His development in the past 12 months is enormous. You can just see from the stands that he has all the great attributes of being a champion defender - reads the play well in advance, has surety with his hands and decision making, uses his body extremely well and is a bloody good kick. Only 20 years of age, and has a whole decade ahead of him.

To be fair, until his injuries hit, he was definitely a gun and on the right path...
I can remember quite a few of us thinking he was streets ahead of Hooker.
Sadly, once injuries started to hit, he lost that consistency and ultimately his feel for the game at the highest level... :(

He was a gun in 2009. That life threatening injury completely stuffed him, sadly. Some (including myself) thought he was actually better than Hurley in 2009.

I think I once likened Stanton to Robert Harvey, and suggested he could win a Brownlow one day.

Another one of mine re: Kyle Reimers after only 8 games...
He's got a great attitude for footy. And he will go a long way with it.

I think in years to come we will all marvel at the trade with Solomon for picks 42 & 47. Gems they are.

This pearler just before Darcy Daniher's debut in 2008...
andrewb wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2008 7:15 pm I'm going to go out on a limb here, but after watching his performance against Sandringham on the weekend I think that Darcy will be the best of our draftees this year and will go on to be an absolute champion of the club. A steal.

He's about six foot four and has explosive pace, but runs "close to the ground" like a midfielder due to what looks like a low centre of gravity. His body work on the weekend was nothing short of sensational for an 18 y.o. Can play forward or back, can play tall or small and has beautiful foot skills from what I saw - has genuine penetration and the wind was atrocious on Saturday.

I'm shocked that he was that good considering the relatively luke warm wraps he was getting pre-draft. He's a footballer first and foremost but he has all the attributes that you need to make it.

If he's playing down back I'd give him Justin Westhoff or Brett Ebert.

tom9779 wrote: Mon May 26, 2008 7:51 pm FINALS NEXT YEAR!!!! :D :D :D :D

its in the gameplan  , and its a spot on prediction.

we are just scooping up the best talent in the draft next year, as after that it will all be going to the GC and western Sydney.(2010-2012 drafts)

watch us grab natanui and a top shelf midfield prospect this year and be good to go next year, with our gun young midfield.(houli, nash, hislop, lovett, watson, mcveigh all raring to go!)

Haha, great find! =D>

I also stuck my neck out for Jay Nash. Thought he was really good.

Bloody Hislop. I remember James Hird during an interview saying Hislop would play 200 games for the club. OH NO HE DIDN'T!!! lol

Lovett was just a wasted talent. Could've been anything.

Does anyone remember Anton Grbac and Marcus Bullen?

I remember losing substantial bets on how their careers were gong to pan out.

Ah yes, Anton Grbac. A full back. Wore number 40. I went to primary school with his sister Bernadette. He mainly played in the night series, and possibly played about 2 senior games.

Don't tell me you thought Bullen was going to be another Cousins?

Going right back to the 80's, I used to think Steve Richardson and Merv Harbinson were going to be stars.

WOW!
sismis: Gumby = Carey: August 2007;

I am big kev excited. Yesterday really showed some ability, especially when we were flat. Worked his arse off all day. The brilliant split second thinking to get that goal really capped it off. We have something very special here. Dare I say, we might have found a new Carey?

I've always looked up to our Ben but boy oh boy this has got to be the mother of all over statements. Yeah okay we can cut him some slack as he did point out that certain players were injury prone but the wraps on the likes of Neagle, Reimers and Hislop is disturbing and concerning.

By the way who the he'll is Atkinson??
BenDoolan wrote: Mon May 05, 2008 12:15 pm

I went there expecting a big loss and we got it. I also went there with keen interest to see how these guys would handle the huge challenges ahead of them. Naturally, they were generally beaten by their opponents, but I walked away satisfied with the likes of Neagle, Daniher, Myers, Atkinson and Hislop.

Be prepared for further losses while these find their feet and establish some confidence at playing at this level. They are our future.
