EARLY IMPRESSIONS OF DYLAN SHIEL

I think it is fair to say that DS has not disappointed. He is currently averaging 29.4 disposals a game and I think in the last 3weeks we have started to see his impact from stoppages, especially at Centre Bounces. His pace and ability to burst from packs is something we haven’t seen at Essendon for a very long time.

Here are his rankings across the entire competition for the first 5 rounds of the season.

Ranked 3rd in Total Inside 50s ● Ranked 9th in Total Goal Assists
● Ranked 16th in Total Handballs ● Ranked 16th in Total Disposals
● Ranked 20th in Total Supercoach Score ● Ranked 15th in Total Contested Possessions
● Ranked 19th in Total Clearances ● Ranked 8th in Total Centre Clearances
● Ranked 18th in Total Score Involvements

dont expect it any time soon. it was one of flaws in his game before we got him. he isnt a goal kicking mid. he doesnt seem to have the ability to kick straight after a strong burst of speed, unlike ablett, danger etc. or in times past aker, judd.

We can hope for it though,DC.

And today’s as good as day as any to mark a rapid improvement on such weaknesses!

Good game but can someone give him a goose next game so he stops over trying for a goal?

58% disposal efficiency today and coughed up a couple of goals indirectly.

At 26, his disposal is unlikely to get better which makes him an above average player but not quite elite. Even so, a great asset.

Gets the ball a lot, but boy does he butcher it. I'm surprised his efficiency is even as high as 58%!!

Yes, of course. His endeavour has a very positive effect on the team, but if he could improve his efficiency we would've won today. Combine that with Danihers two kicks into the corridor that both cost goals...

Wasn't having a go at you, or anyone else. Would be great if his efficiency improves but I doubt it's going to happen after this long in his career.
As far as I'm concerned his disposal is effective as Heppell's, but he adds that burst/speed factor that Heppel doesn't, and that we'd been lacking so much.
Moments....
There were so many during the game where someone did something dumb that may have changed the eventual outcome. I reckon it was one of the most high-pressure games I've seen (after 1/4 time anyway) so I'm forgiving all the mistakes today. Well, most of them anyway

Is this why he knocked back Carlton? The money was great but too much to live up to?

It is if he didn’t want to win the Anzac Medal today. All he had to do was nail a goal in that last quarter and we win. And I suspect, he would have got the medal.

He has all of he class of winning the ball and running away from opponents. Just needs a bit more polish to finish off his good work.

Someone just needs to teach him how to steady before disposal. Seriously....watch him...he rarely ever takes a steadying step or two before disposal.

His arms are very stiff and bent at the elbows when he is running with the ball...that translates to a dodgey ball drop when kicking. He needs to loosen his arms and and relax his kicking style....if he can manage that then he becomes an elite mid

He needs to watch and learn from Saad. Saad is an excellent kick (generally) after he’s just done a big burst.
Unfortunately, you can't drown a witch!

Convicted Drunk Driver Jon Anderson tries to make controversy.
Did Dylan Shiel choose the wrong club?

Essendon star Dylan Shiel would have been better off choosing rival Carlton, and not the Bombers, according to one man.

Shiel has been in great form since joining the Bombers late last year but on The SuperFooty Podcast, veteran Herald Sun reporter Jon Anderson said he believed the hard runner might have further prospered at the Blues.

"He picked the wrong club," Ando said.

"Dylan Shiel should be playing for Carlton, not Essendon.

"The reason he should be playing for Carlton is that he would be playing alongside Patrick Cripps, and that one-two would be as good as it got, probably in the AFL, because Shiel would complement the inner work and those quick hands of Cripps."
Have another drink Jon, your argument may make more sense then.

Well he does have some several valid points in the article. When you set them side by side it’s equal.
