All this while contemplating trading him away for better options / picks. Because he seeks a trade, you disrespect him and diss him.

The mind boggles.
still proves nothing..in fact you have highlighted several consistent views. Yes i did say no one was bagging him in reference to other posters. I on the other hand find it odd that Joe has announced his wishes to leave the club on the basis of a lifestyle choice. Regarding his alleged drinking issues I was very careful to not reveal any details clearly said it was his business. These are issues previously reported in the media, perhaps unfairly. Goddard even alluded to Daniher's lack of professionalism and dedication during his rehab. I am not saying anything that is not already in the public domain although I am fully aware of the deeper truth to these allegations. Finally, my comment regarding trading Joe as being his most significant contribution is a tongue in cheek reference to the possible upside the club could receive in return. Just maybe we as a football team will be better for it in the long run. I do not see any of this as me character assassinating the individual nor have i flipped on any of my views throughout this period. In fact, if you want to go back some months, I even suggested then that Daniher could be the ideal trade option for the club...well before any of this current scenario, well before his Sydney catch up.

So on this issue at least, I believe I have been very consistent and avoided denigrating the player.

I am sure like most of us, passionate supporters, there are going to be times when we flip flop on opinions. Why is this a problem? Things change, circumstances change, opinions change.

Who knows, maybe one day you may change your views on Langford. I dont believe other than some light hearted banter, anyone would hold that against you.

What I object to is that you seem hell bent on ridiculing almost everything i post. Now, I will be the first to accept thst sometimes whst i say may come across as opinionated. No one is perfect. But having been a member of this forum since 2001 and a former writer for the Essendon web site, I feel pretty comfortable with my contribution to this site.

May I suggest for everyone's peace, that we bury the hatchet and try to just get along. Not against rigourous debate, but lets can the slanging matches.

I regret it if my manner has offended and apologise f that is the case.

Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro is refusing to budge on a trade for Joe Daniher.
Speaking at PWC’s breakfast with Connors Sport, Dodoro explained the club wanted to hold the key forward to his contract in order to help the club consolidate as they search for their first finals win since 2004.
“We’ve made it perfectly clear in regards to Joe, our intention is to keep him,” he said.
“It is about consolidation as a club. You can’t trade in big names every year. We think we are in a really sound position.”
Dodoro confirmed the club have had three discussions with Sydney, but Essendon’s position had not changed.
“We don't think this draft can replace a player like Joe,” he said.
“He's valued at our club and we can't see a reason why he can't fall back in love with our club.”

Just bluff and bluster. "We cant keep trading big names every year "??? How many big names that were any good have we traded away lately? And don't tell me Paddy. They know his heart isn't in Essendon any more and they'll let him go in a heartbeat for the right deal.

What does everyone think about Raz and possibly Joe staying on, for another year at least.

Is this a good thing? What about their roles in the leadership group - are they now untennable? Would booting them out of the leadership group only push them further away rather than helping them to rediscover their "love" for the club?

If both players stay on I would think the club needs to work overtime to get everyone's head in the right place.

There can be no doubt that both player could deliver a raft of valuable draft picks but do they, along with Dev Smith, represent in essence "new recruits" for 2020?

I'm glad Raz is staying, and I hope Joe does. Although Raz would be a lesser loss if they both left.
Our premiership window is about now. Without Joe we'd have a seriously inadequate forward line. Not saying he's the messiah, but of all our options he's far and away the best.
Gaining draft picks doesn't help the "here and now", especially for power forwards. And according to Dodoro, there's none on the radar this year or next in the draft either. And there's no similar power forward out there to trade.
So losing Joe would potentially set us back years. Maybe beyond where we could still be a contender?

Leadership? So hard to say. We still don't know the real story with Raz supposedly wanting to leave. And Joe, well he might be happier without that responsibility. And I'm guessing the Club are talking to him right now about how they can reduce his "bubble" and make him happier at Bomberland.

Keeping them both will seem like we won during trade week when we actually didn’t (do anything).

There needs to be some soul searching within the club. Why do 2 top line 25 year old vice captains want to leave the club? Is it the ultra shite fitness program?? Well, that’s being addressed now. Is it a shite culture? I have no idea what that’s like, so one wonders.

These 2 guys can potentially kick 120 goals in combination (if bloody fit). That’s huge.

THIS ^^

PS - I don't see how the medical side of things could have been an issue - most would have been based on Specialist's advice, not the Club's medical team. Surely. Wouldn't it??
PPS - as I've said before, maybe these 2 haven't been happy with the direction of the game plan? More defensive actions, more defensive running etc etc.
PPPS - there were rumours quite a few months ago that there was disharmony among the playing group. Maybe these two were impacted by that (if it was true).
PPPPS - some other crap :)

JD would prefer a magic pill to cure his ills rather than be berated for not putting in the work.

Fanta was getting ahead of himself. when other SA origin players (who would seem to have a greater call to go home) sign extensions with EFC, he should have thought more about it.

Besides all the "reasons" and anything else, I've got one word for these players......CONTRACT.

Love how we bandied about the idea of the Swans giving Nick Blakey or Henry in exchange for Daniher. Too right I say!

We want quality FOR quality otherwise no deal.

TD weighing saying it’s disappointing is also good. What we really want is Daniher to have a massive change of mind, get himself right, get his mind right (“what we have here is a failure to communicate!”) and commit to us beyond next year.

Yeah well, when we cut players before the end of their contract; we have cut players at the end of their first year when they have another year on their contract and the AFL rules state a minimum of two; and we are happy to target contracted players at other clubs ... I'd say it cuts both ways.

A contract aint a jail sentence without time off for good behavior.

All I can say is, unless somebody can pull some shock move out of their arse, then waiting to see if the future of season 2020 hangs on the shoulders of a petulant overgrown kid, it means "ITS GONNA BE A LONG, LONELY SUMMER! "

I'm more than happy to keep Joe and hoping that the Swans offer of Picks 5 and 25 are not improved on - which means we keep him.

Always believed that Joe's issue were more in his head and once he matured both in mind and body we would see the best of him. If reports that the surgery he had earlier this year were a success and he has his body right for a full pre season, I'm be confident that he will start to enjoy football / club / life again.

The players want him to stay, the club obviously wants him to stay ... all goes well, he'll stay once he is back out playing good football.

However, he's a restricted free agent at end of next year if he doesn't resign. We match whatever Swans offer him and force their hand to trade. He gets a season under his belt and his value is unquestioned.

A season of football is a long time ... a gamble I'd be willing to take.

Not doubting you but just curious as to who had their contracts cut prematurely? And if that happened i am sure they would have been fully paid out

Indeed they probably were.

One case in particular - Paul Thomas (won Margary Medal in 2004) recruited 2005 (Pick 60) played 8 games. Delisted 2005.

Returned to SA and became captain Central Districts 2007 and Captain of SANFL side in 2012. Crows Development Coach 2018-

Never explained why he left and why his time was shortened.

Given St Kilda are going to give Port Adelaide two first round picks (12 and 18) for Dougal Howard and Ryder - we are definitely not demanding too much.

What happens with Joe whether he stays or goes is only half of the question. Will the op fix the problem? Will Joe return to be the player he was?
There are NO guarantees about anything concerning Joe. As for Joe falling back in love with the club, he has been wanting to leave is another big assumption by the EFC. The hardest thing to do is to fall back in love, it requires massive changes right across the board. I do think JoeDan is very conflicted and probably the offer if its come being an AFL Ambassador and whatever comes with that in Sydney, would certainly have been a tipping point. Extra folding stuff its always handy if you are a big spender.

I suppose the club will have a barrow load of excuses in 2020, if Joe doesn't live up to expectations and its possible there are no guarantees.

Whatever happens, EFC have the upper hand.

The club won’t budge and TBH, I don’t think a deal will get done.

If the deal isn’t done this year, we can match a restricted free agent offer next year forcing a trade at that time.

If he has another poor year (regardless of why), he may lose some value, but either way, Swans have to pay way overs so we win any trade regardless.
