Daniher, who suffered a calf strain at training earlier last month after osteitis pubis sidelined him for the majority of 2018, joins Matt Dea, Jayden Laverde and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher in the 27-man VFL squad.

Gleeson # in his cheek bone, 2 weeks.

Kobe Mutch and Shaun McKernan.

“Kobe is now back doing his second running session this week, which is an important step in his rehab.

“Shaun has done a fair bit of running over the last couple of weeks, he’s built up to doing over 20 kilometres of volume running this week.

“We’ll be holding off the top speeds until he’s ready, but he’s certainly getting some good volume of work at the moment.”

James Stewart as the club continues to take a patient approach with his recovery from a groin injury.

“Last week we mentioned that James hadn’t run yet and was a little bit slow to get going – that’s still the case.

“We’re going to keep holding until he’s completely clear before starting his running progressions. Once we do that, he’ll be a couple of weeks away.

Also.....

Zac Clarke has sustained a secondary bleed in the calf and is unlikely to be available for selection this week.
“Zac Clarke trained a little bit later than the main group last week and looked quite good, it got better the more he did.
“He presented on the day of the game (against the Kangaroos) with more blood in his calf after getting a knock in the previous match. He’s had a secondary bleed from that initial cork within that calf, which has set him back.
“We actually don’t think that he’ll get up for this weekend, but he’s doing everything he can to try to clear the blood from the calf in what is a significant bleed.”

and

Josh Begley has impressed in his two VFL games on restricted game time so far this year.Crow said the club has been “really pleased” with Begley’s progress and the 20-year-old has been cleared for a full match this week.

and

One Don who won’t be playing this week is James Stewart as the club continues to take a patient approach with his recovery from a groin injury.

“We’re going to keep holding until he’s completely clear before starting his running progressions. Once we do that, he’ll be a couple of weeks away.
“He is a little bit slow to get started, but we’re really intent on getting this one right.”

When was the last time we took an aggressive or pro-active apporach to injury and recovery?

Everytime someone falls over Justin Crow runs out the line about taking a 'conservative' approach.
A year for sore groins and 6-12 weeks for a hammy.

Essendon forward Mitch Brown is expected to be sidelined for approximately three to four weeks, after scans confirmed the 28-year-old has sustained a fracture in his wrist.
Conservative management, surgery not required.

Conservative management = telling everyone it is something minor and advising x weeks ... then admitting it is something else resulting in 2x+1 weeks off.

At least Smith has got through unscathed. Nothing showed up when they scanned his knee - so back to training and should be available next week.

Andy McGrath, dangerous forward Orazio Fantasia and experienced ruckmen Tom Bellchambers and Zac Clarke have all put their hand up for selection

Draper unfortunately isn't training at all. He's done his ACL. :( :-#

Defender Marty Gleeson (broken cheek bone) and forward Mitch Brown (fractured wrist):
“Marty is ... tracking towards round 10,” Crow said.
“Mitch Brown ...is also tracking back towards round 10.”

James Stewart ... could be made available in two to three weeks, ...‘Tom’ Jok is eyeing off the same timeframe following bone bruising to his knee.

Hamstring injuries:

“Jayden’s ...looking to return... to play over the next couple of weeks depending on how he tracks in this end stage of his rehabilitation.

Shaun McKernan and ... Kobe Mutch, “Shaun’s on track for a round 10 return. “Kobe is set for round 13-15. ...”

Just looking at the list, I am sure half our squad are missing...

Pulled heart-strings, concussion (surely they can’t all be that bad at decision making), diarrhoea (heaven knows that watching bad EFC gives me the shits)...

But he wasn't listed on the Injury Report post-game, or any time since until this morning.
Much like the Draper incident last week, where he'd done his ACL and they called it "managed minutes".
Members OWN this Club, but we're treated like shit with the stuff they lie to us about or don't mention at all.
And that includes some decent information/responses from Coaching staff about what's going wrong.
You'd have more chance of knowing what YOUR Company is doing if you were a shareholder of BHP etc.

Add D. Smith to modified training?

Post by F111 » Tue May 14, 2019 9:52 pm

ESSENDON has suffered a fresh injury blow with doubt surrounding the availability of reigning best and fairest winner Devon Smith ahead of its round nine clash with Fremantle.

The hard-tackling forward is off to see a specialist this week after reporting new soreness in the knee that he has had to carefully manage over the past two years.

"During the Sydney game, Devon had three sharp episodes in his knee in a different spot to what he'd had over the last couple of years with his knee having a PCL deficiency, which means the PCL isn't present," club performance manager Justin Crow said on Tuesday.

"He's got a new lesion within the knee, so he will be off for a specialist opinion this week and we'll be able to update further once we've got more direction from the specialist."
