ESSENDON has suffered a fresh injury blow with doubt surrounding the availability of reigning best and fairest winner Devon Smith ahead of its round nine clash with Fremantle.
The hard-tackling forward is off to see a specialist this week after reporting new soreness in the knee that he has had to carefully manage over the past two years.
"During the Sydney game, Devon had three sharp episodes in his knee in a different spot to what he'd had over the last couple of years with his knee having a PCL deficiency, which means the PCL isn't present," club performance manager Justin Crow said on Tuesday.
"He's got a new lesion within the knee, so he will be off for a specialist opinion this week and we'll be able to update further once we've got more direction from the specialist."
WTF is a “club performance manager”?
Just like every assistant is a “performance coach”.
High Performance Centre.
The only thing not performing, are the players.

No modified or otherwise training for Smith Gorn 'til '20.
McKernan we’re expecting him to be available to play.
Brown is a test ... If he gets ... through training without issue, he’ll be available.
Gleeson. ... got the all clear...he’ll then be available to play.”
Jok has been ...training with the main group
Mynott, after his calf issue, is another test. He’ll train, we’re hopeful he’ll play.
Stewart ... groin issue ...he’s now building his running back up.
Fantasia ... is still most likely to return following the club’s upcoming bye.
Mutch ... approximate return five to six weeks away.

ESSENDON is fearing the worst for Joe Daniher's season after the star forward suffered a suspected re-aggravation of his troublesome groin.
AFL.com.au understands Daniher will miss at least this week's Dreamtime at the 'G clash against Richmond as the club investigates his latest concern.

Not sure if there is currently any thought or consideration...but I think it is just about time the club seriously considers to...

You can’t sack an entire playing list, but if it’s not the Fitness Team to Blame,I just wonder if the players actually do the required stretching excercises, amongst other physical preparations PROPERLY?!

The fitness team are responsible for preparing the players during the off season and during the season. Year after year we hit the season like sloths - getting done in practice matches and looking absolutely under done. This is bullshit.
Then there is this unbelievable factor where most of our players are getting injuries AT TRAINING. WTF is with that?
The same players getting the same injuries over and over. Chronic stuff. When is enough, enough?
It’s not like we are one of the fittest teams in the comp. the GPS data tells us that we are not working hard enough. But then they keep coming up with some BS that the GPS “wasn’t working” or some shit. Yeah, blame the equipment
For me, we are repeating the same crap over and over again...
1. Our pre-season is lacklustre and the performance in practice matches is bloody CRAP.
2. Certain players keep breaking down time and again
3. Most of these injuries occur AT TRAINING
4. We are just not fit enough to go with the best teams in the comp
5. We rarely make finals, and when we do, we limp in and we get pumped.
Sack ‘em.

This.
The term 'High Performance' should never be used at EFC until we actually do something that warrants anyone in the business looking at our laughable set-up and saying - "Gee - we should do what Essendon do".
It's been nearly 20 years of this crap!

Ok mate, you’d know more about the inner workings of The Club than I do.I still wonder if the players still contribute to their own Injuries with Poor preparation, but having said what you’ve said,I wonder if what you’ve said,is better said aloud on Radio.
That might at least Flush out a more concise Response from The Fitness honchos and The Club!Might!
If you get hold of them On Air,That might be better?!

Never use the words "High Performance" with this 2nd rate medical group or coaching team for that matter.

We really are the Rinse and Repeat club....but for some reason the shit stains never come out.
When Justin Crow was called into Xavier’s office and told we have a problem with soft muscles he probably thought the popular seafood dish was being taken off the menu at the club cafe.

We can’t sustain this level of misfortune. Whether that is attributed to the fitness department or not, it still needs a review.
Too many times we’ve seen these sorts of outcomes.
Not good enough.

Injuries or not - we are done this season. Injuries should not be an excuse there are clubs with more injured than us. Richmond, Melbourne, Collingwood heading the list and then more with less.

We could see Stringer, Shiel, Razzle and Brown all available versus the Dorks. Hard to imagine all 4 would get up, but we could do with a break.

Get them in: Dylan Shiel, Orazio Fantasia and Jake Stringer are expected back this week against Hawthorn after overcoming their respective soft-tissue injuries. Martin Gleeson also played his best VFL game of the year last week so is getting close to his first AFL game since 2017. Callum Twomey

And just who does Gleeson replace? Defensive 6...
Hurley, Hooker, Ambrose, Redman, Saad, McKenna

Gleeson is "almost" ready. He'll need to bide his time in the VFL until an injury opens something up. Then it'll be a Ridley v Gleeson choice.
Then there was only one!
Kobe Mutch Hammie 1 week
Raz Fantasia Quad Test
Dylan Shiel Hammie Test
James Stewart Groin Test
Jake Stringer Hammie Test
Joe Daniher Groin Season
Sam Draper Knee Season
Devon Smith Knee Season
“Orazio Fantasia also trained today, but he still has a couple of boxes to tick to return from that quad injury. He is in the mix, so hopefully he will pull up well and be ready to take on the Hawks.”
Fantasia will get his chance to prove his fitness on Thursday, with the final team to be announced at 5pm that evening.
