Team for Round 1

Post by Windy_Hill » Mon Mar 11, 2019 4:50 am

Defence 6

Hurley, Francis, Hartley, Saad, McKenna, Ambrose

Midfield 6

Bellchambers, McGrath, Merrett, Shiel, Heppell, Smith

Forward 6

Daniher, Laverde, Fantasia, Stringer, Walla, McKernan

Interchange

Langford, Zaharakis, Ridley, Myers

Notable Absentees - Parish - looked all at sea in JLT - has not bulked up (in fact is 3KG down on last season) - Brown - could come in for McKernan

Can’t argue with that.

What’s Matt Dea’s status? Is he able to be selected in seniors or does he need to be promoted off the rookie list? IMO, he’s stiff to get chopped off the senior list after his season last year.

Dea has a knee injury and is officially out for 6 weeks.

Rookies can be selected for the 22 with no maximum game cap or selection restriction.

Not sure why they even bother with rookies these days except they have a 1 year contract and are cheaper than the main list (but then again, you can get a 1 year contract extension for players).

Gets away from the idea that rookies are for player development or risky picks (though Category B rookies are sorta like that (I'm not looking at Ben McNiece though).

Think Clarke would be ahead of McKernan with a fit Daniher to line up at CHF and the rucks resting at FF.

I think this is the really interesting selection issue...especially under the new rules where a dominant ruckman could really be the difference. Do we go with 2 legitimate rucks who share the load equally or 1 main ruck, TBC who does 75% ofnthe centre bounces and a secondary ruck cum forward such as McKernan who offers more options than say Clarke? Remember, before injury last season, McKernan was very influential as a tall forward

I’d keep SMack in and make sure Clarke earns his spot.

I don’t think SMack has done anything not to get a game and is a better option up forward.

f***, it won’t happen, but atm, I’d rather SMack and Clarke in than Joey...give JD a month in the Magoos with 2 simple directives: smash it, kick straight - anything less than 4 goals a game avg and at least 80% conversion, don’t get back in....
