Snelling.

#76?

A decent performance in his first hit up today apparently. Can anyone elaborate on his game?

From notes from todays game.
Jordan also praised midseason draftee Will Snelling (23 disposals, seven marks, five tackles) in his debut match.

“I thought (Will) played his role. You could tell he’s a good operator inside and around the contest, and will find his way into our structure and our system in time.

“As he evolves and gets to know the boys a little bit more, he’ll get more comfortable within the team and hopefully we can see put some really good games together to push for an AFL selection.”

Yeah, two midgets in the middle against giants.

Yeah, two midgets in the middle against giants.
I think what Windy is saying is that Snelling and Smith have similar tenacious attributes that every team needs. While one is in the middle, the other is causing damage up forward and vice-versa.

Snelling has a touch of De Goey about him. Early days, but signs are promising.

Yeah, I could see that. If De Goey was a midget, mid, with half as much talent.

It’s not necessarily about stature. Style and presence is more important in the grander scheme of things.

Not sure what your take on it is? Are you saying Snelling doesn’t meet AFL standard heights, weights and measures?

Not at all. Players come in all shapes and sizes. But yes, stature does make a difference. Snelling is 176cm and 70kg, De Goey is 188cm and 91kg. One of De Goey’s great strengths is being able to play “tall”, and still be nimble. Snelling can’t do that.

If we can leave aside the comparison with DeGoey (a big call) then I reckon he could be a useful asset. Maybe, other than Smith, think of him more like a Caleb Daniel.
Certainly knows how to find the ball and a good tackler. So a bit like Smith.
Don't need them both in midfield at the same time because of their lack of size.
But one in midfield and one forward seems reasonable. We certainly lack some small pressure forwards. And if Snelling can add some forward craft to his game he could do well there.

I’m not saying Snelling IS De Goey, I’m saying he is a touch of De Goey. In the sense of a danger lurking forward press type player who can create something out of nothing. It’s a quality that is rare and spontaneous. A touch of flair. Some razzamatazz etc.

22 disposals and a goal. I didn’t see the game, just followed the commentary.

Add 6 or 7 tackles to that as well.
