Salary Cap

Post by boncer34 » Thu Aug 01, 2019 3:13 pm

Hi guys, been awhile since I've actually been here.

Our salary cap is stretched pretty thing at the moment, I would resign ourselves to losing someone this off-season unless something substantial changes.

Looks like BZT is likely to sign on....worried about Walla, Bulldogs into him from what I have heard...surely not.

Might be time to cash in on Orazio and Francis to free up some space and grab a high draft pick. Adelaide would be very interested given their list situation and likely rebuild. I think we can continue to build with both players gone but obviously would prefer a world in which they stayed as Bombers.

Considering we are a club of significant underachieving, I find this cap issue laughable. Unless of course Smith, Saad, Stringer and Shiel are taking a massive slice...

I think you will find that we paid overs for those returning from the ASADA suspension.

Time to offload some of them then. If that means Zaka, Hurley, Myers, so be it.

Only one of those is on big enough coin to make a dent.

Bring Stringer, Shiel and Smith in wasn't cheap. Then we have McGrath, Zerrett, Daniher, Heppell, Hooker amongst others.

You say we're underachieving which means you think we should be further up the ladder?

Underachieving is not winning a final since 2004. Start winning some and then talk extra cash.

Let’s assume Hurley, Hooker, Zaka are gone in 2 years....that must be close to $2m in salary. We should be fine is we back end new contracts.

Don’t forget, whilst they may not be worth the coin, clubs must spend 97% (I think) of the cap...

Thx. Even at that rate, it only leaves 63k available assuming we are paying the minimum.

Which we've been trading in instead of drafting.

Though Adelaide is in waaaaay more trouble.

Is there anywhere online which sets out the terms of each contract EFC has entered into with its players?

Not with the lists we’ve had. We clogged it up with junk for far too long. The recent list of “life members” has become a joke.

The point of mentioning the underachieving 15 year period is that players who have been on the list for a fair slice of that period, shouldn’t be asking for top dollar that would put us in a position of “salary cap pressure”. Like I said, unless our recent gun recruits are taking a fair slice of the cap, I can’t see where the pressure is coming from.

Joe Dan signed up for 666K a couple of years ago, for example. And that was on the back of AA, Crichton medal, leading goal kicker performance. If Hurley is on more of that, move him on I say.

Is there a list of top earners at our club and what they’re on?
