Finals Not A Given

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Finals Not A Given

Post by Windy_Hill » Sat Aug 03, 2019 7:09 pm

A win today then finals footy would have been pretty much in the bag. Not so certain now.

Our Run Home

Western Bulldogs
Fremantle (away)
Collingwood

We probably need to win 2 at least although our percentage is only 100.1

Not looking good

If we play like we played today, then we will lose all three for sure.

f*** me,it was bad enough seeing Fremantle Win today.

It’ll be even WORSE them telling the Outside Noise, they know what they’re doing.

Two good things.

1 - I was told at my watering hole by a fellow Essendon Supporter, our Ressies Won by 85 points.

Poor old Sandy though.

2 - Peelmantle Reserves Lost, which puts them and the West Coast Budgies 2 games out of the WAFL 5.

It may be only 1 Daise(if I can call you that please,my dear?).

The season goes beyond August!Believe me,I KNOW(A Barassi saying),it ain’t much fun watching Finals action at the Top Level, when your team isn’t there.

Sorry to you(and Crazyman)to bring you the classic example -Perth Football Club!

Red(and possibly Rover)can testify to that!

Believe you me,I’d love to be able to pull the trigger(Blow The Final Siren) about 5PM on the Ultimate Day(As well as 3 others.no matter the odds!

Agree with you Daisy - I'd rather not make it. What's the point? We simply are not good enough to have any real impact.

Nah, if we tank and miss finals we can potentially finish around 13th - and get a much higher draft pick :)

If we make finals, the usual belting is in store.

When the going gets tough, EFC go missing.

If we had less injuries and looked vaguely competitive, then finals would be good...

1. We are currently in the 8
2. We will get back some players - McKernan, Parish, Heppell, Hurley (maybe)
3. We have lost one game in the last 6
4. No need to panic

It’s hardly panicking to state the obvious. We will need to win 2 of our remaining 3 games against a rising Bulldogs team, away to Fremantle (which just beat the ladder leaders at home) and a Top four candidate with returning injured players in Collingwood.

Our 5 out of 6 wins all required come from behind wins, three of those against teams in the bottom 6. We were lucky to beat the worse performing team in the league by 10 points. Have a look at how they are going against Collingwood today.

Our form, according to the coach, remains very inconsistent. We are lacking a recognised ruckman which was severely exposed by Port. Injuries to key players are now being felt. None of this is opinion. Just facts.

Like this club over the last 15 years, we have all become far too accepting of non performance. I hope we make the finals but it now comes done to whether this group of players want it as much as we hope for it. It’s in their hands.

Realistic I'd say. Rather than buying all the hype.

Facts are the way we are playing, how many of the players turned up to play against Port. Langford said as much in his media conference. They had an expectation that they could turn it on in the second half like they have been and couldn't. Port wouldn't allow them to play their game and our blokes many of them, weren't present and it was all too hard. Not many present, only a handful and one was Snell. This kid is a keeper. He gave some of our more senior players a lesson in how to be present. What happened last week isn't an automatic replay for this week. However, we are in a bit of a hole and without players coming back into the team fit and ready to play, its put up and shut up time now. We could lose all three games. We are going to have to play some good footy to win. If we don't, we won't be going any further. It will be holiday time.

Just wondering if there are any figures on how many injuries there are from year to year. It feels like this year there have been more. Anyone have any idea if the AFL keep stats on injuries etc?

i saw a graphic last week...i think it was during "On the Couch" showing total games lost to injury for the current season. Off the top of my head we were in the bottom 6 meaning fewest games lost. I guess the reality is the quality of players out with injuries. Daniher, Smith, Gleeson, Hurley, Heppell , Fantasia and Bellchambers would probably be in our first 10 selected every week

Yep, fact is if we happen to make the finals, I can only see us (the team AND us supporters) being embarrassed. :(

Full steam ahead! Our VFL stars have been holding the club together. They’ll put in a good show if given the chance. Let ‘em rip! Blessing in disguise 8)
