SO WHAT NOW?

Post by Daisy..1 » Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:07 pm

Honest question...HOW are we as (fickle) supporters...to engage Big Joe next year? Do we applaud his first game with pasdionate Gusto? ....or.....silence?

Depends on what he does.

Plays hard has a crack, all good.
Plays like an entitled shit, gets what he deserves...

Grassy, in your long experience is there any freakin way, by any stretch of the imagination that this team could suddenly gel next year and become a flag contender or at least a top 4 prospect? The only possible way as I see it, is if other contenders are suddenly struck by momentus injuries or all decide to go through a massive rebuild or upheaval of some kind and take a year off. PS: After all these years, I have to have some hope, no matter how faint. :D

Yes they could.
I'm glass half empty though.

On the surface, and based on trade outcomes, organic improvement, form line, returning injured players and fixture bias I see the following ladder moves.

Teams Likely to be Better in 2020

St Kilda (trading, new coach halo effect)
Melbourne (better than 2019 results indicate, soft draw )
Essendon ( returning injured players, improved coaching and fitness structure)
Brisbane ( upward trajectory)
Hawthorn (trading outcome, returning injured players)
Carlton (upward trajectory, settled coaching, trading outcome - if they land Martin
West Coast ( trading outcome)
Western Bulldogs (emerging raft of youngsters, upward trajectory)

Teams likely to be Worse in 2020

Adelaide (player exodus, untried coach, club morale, aging list)
Port Adelaide (player exodus, aging list)
Sydney (downward trajectory, aging list, poor defense)
North Melbourne (list defeiciencies, no improvement via trading)
Fremantle (transition phase, weaker list)

Teams likely to hold their Ground

Geelong. (Patched holes with trades, quality midfield with another year in the tank)
Collingwood (no obvious improvement from trades, solid list)
GWS (upward trajectory, finals loss motivation, useful draft)
Gold Coast (stabilization year, developing youngsters, one for the future)
Richmond. ( can’t go up, but likely flag favorite already, Rance returning)

Top 8 Lock Ins

Richmond
West Coast
Collingwood
GWS
Geelong
Brisbane

2 Top 8 positions available to 3 teams

Essendon
Western Bulldogs
Hawthorn

Knocking on the Door

St Kilda

Smokey

Carlton
Melbourne

Making up the Numbers

Fremantle
Adelaide
Port Adelaide
North
Sydney

Wooden Spooner

Gold Cost

I seem to recall the geelong crowd (at geelong) applauding Dangerfield every time he got the ball, whilst he was still playing for the crows.

So I`m wondering if the swans supporters will cheer Joe on when we play them (up there), which we inevitabley seem to do.

As we speak, I am certain the AFL will be liaising with Essendon’s fitness staff to get a heads up on when Daniher will play and will set the Sydney SCG fixture to ensure he is there and playing.
