AFL putting the FIX in fixture

Post by s'dreams » Thu Oct 31, 2019 10:45 am

Noo haven't got them all yet but I note that the AFL media is harping

"The Dons hog Thursday night games"

Yep. That's correct. 4 f****** Thursdays. With 2 Fridays

The AFL really want Thursdays to work and Collingwood have clearly told the AFL to get f***** because they only do 3 Thursdays (but 5 Fridays). So have Geelong with 0 Turd-days but 6 Fridays and the Dogs with 0 Thurd days but 5 Fridays.

Of note,
4 Thurs night games (only one of which is a home game)
2 Friday night games (no home games)
4 Sunday games, two of which are twilight games
6 interstate games (West Coast, Adelaide, Port, Sydney, Giants and Brisbane)
2 top 4 teams get played twice (GWS and Collingwood).
7 games at the MCG

Smart arse scheduling (vs Sydney Round 2)

Overall, not a bad draw (though I would have preferred one less away game and for two of our last 3 games to be at home rather than interstate).

Oh - and someone in marketing had too much time on their hands (or perhaps the work experience kid had to do their end of year assignment)

I'm happy with it all. In fact, I hope we play all our games on a Thursday or a Friday. I hate it when my weekend is spoiled by our club.

I hate it when our season is spoiled by the club. Perhaps we should agitate to get our games played over summer instead.

Yep, don’t mind them.

The club has just become a bore to me. I get shitty when I have to watch them on a Saturday afternoon. Would rather do something else. They’ve worn me down with their shitness.

Thursday games are a good excuse to take Friday off. Only way to get through our games is with a few drinks.

 I’m the complete opposite. No matter how good or bad one’s Footy Club is,Saturday Arvo’s just fine by me.After Saturday Morning and Mid-day earlier. It’s a pain when your 2 or 3 teams are split up!

Where does AWFULL get the crazy notion Thursday Night might work, after the abject Failure here of Monday Night Football?Yep,straight off their mates at the NFL.We don’t hear much from our lickspittle football Media about AWFULL’s relationship with Roger Goodall and Co.We should!

It’s one thing to play Thursday Night, before Good Friday when you shouldn’t be playing footy.Another to shove that concept down our throats, when most folk have other plans.

I know why AWFULL want to persist with Thursday Nights. So they can say in future, they’re not doing it just to play spoiler on the FIFA World Cup,as they’ve had Thursday Night Football for years. But really, they’re just doing it,so they can play spoiler on the FIFA World Cup!

It’s pretty much a facade on their part.

I may be cynical, but I'd think Thursday night footy is done so they can split the playing schedule more, which is to allow more broadcast options, which then (hopefully for the AFL) brings in a bigger broadcasting rights deal.

To dismiss my cynicism, maybe AWFULL can put the Thursday nighters early and late in the season,so there’s a better chance of fine weather. Not when Winter is upon us!
