Are boots made out to be what they need to be? This injury never existed in the past (to my knowledge). Boots in the ye ol’ days were built for pounding the pigskin. Today, they go for the pizzzazz look of flashy type.

Gotta put the good wheels on! :-s
Define the past. Hird nearly had to retire due to his.
Last century. But I guess Hird was at the end of it (1999?)

Just wasn’t a thing (that I can remember of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s)

How many navicular injuries have we had the past 3 years?

Off the top of my head...Tex Wanganeen and Tom Hird.
add: a search thru this site mentions Colyer and Pears.
So not as many as some might think.

Bellcho had it as well IIRC. Could be others. I seem to recall a number of “foot” injuries the have kept players out for an extended time - Stringer one, Poppy Stewart another.

Don’t know if other clubs get this sort of thing? I acknowledge Navi’s are kinda rare… but outta the rare, is it happening more at EFC?

I’m hearing 4-6 weeks (according to the fripples on SEN).

It’s a worry that he has history with the quad. Hope it doesn’t become chronic [-o<

Time will tell of course. :-k He's a huge loss.

In the meantime Mackay, Reid, Laverde and Redman, maybe Martin or Cox will provide the height but maybe not enough strength and. Then there's Hepp and Hind possibly but small. McGrath a likely lock at BP.

Question mark hanging over Darcy Parish.
Apparently has some hamstring tightness. In doubt for Round 1.

Star midfielder Darcy Parish remains a chance to return to action for Essendon this weekend, needing to train fully over the coming days to confirm if he’ll make the trip to face Sydney at the SCG on Saturday night.

Young defender Zach Reid is expected to miss the next four weeks after suffering a hamstring strain in the Bombers’ round one win over Hawthorn.

The 21-year-old was subbed out of the contest at half-time after reporting hamstring awareness to fitness staff in the second quarter, with scans this week revealing the full extent of the injury.

Forward Matt Guelfi is also set to miss the next two weeks after straining his calf late in the final term on Saturday.

While the pair’s respective injuries were each graded as minor, the club will take a conservative approach to ensure their return to full fitness.
Didn't Guelfi have a long out with a hammie last year?

A “high grade” hammy in April last year.

And I’m sick of hearing the cut & paste “the club will take a conservative approach” with injuries

Nothing.

It’s not like the alternative is “the club will take the radical approach” and wheel them out before they have recovered.
