Grant Thomas is no longer coach of St Kilda. Not sure if he got the flick or quit.

Wow. That is huge news for the saints.

Riddled by injuries i spose.

Got one of the best lists in the comp.

Get a good coach and they will still go a long way!

Is this the St Kilda culture returning or is it good management.

Thomas is the only coach (apart from Jeans?) to ever get St Kilda into the finals three years in a row. The team was crippled by injuries every time they looked like making a run this year.

I don't rate him very highly as a coach (given the under achieving of the previous two years) but I hope the decision is based on the three years and not just this year.

One coach down...how many more will follow?

Got it from BigFooty that it was apparently on SEN that Thomas had quit, with a formal press conference to be held at 4:00 pm EST.

St Kilda just became a genuine premiership threat. If they get the right man.

They say he "resigned".

But he was pushed, and rightly so.

It's the best thing that has happened to that club in a while.
They have argueably the best list in the AFL, but for some reason they make nothing of it.
Getting rid of him is the first step for them to win a premiership

SAINTS COACH THOMAS SACKED

The Age
Peter Litras
September 12, 2006

St Kilda coach Grant Thomas will not coach the Saints next year after reaching a "mutual agreement" with board members earlier today.

Thomas said he was disappointed in the decision and said that before the board meeting, he had expected to hold onto his postition for next season.

''The guys (board) think firmly that the club needs to move in a different direction,'' Thomas told the press conference.

''It's not necessarily a mutual agreement.''

''It came from left-field, I certainly wasn't expecting it.''

Club president Rod Butterss said Thomas' departure would allow the club the time it needed to find a new coach.

He highlighted strategy as one of the things the club had disagreed with Thomas on.

''We had our differences in terms of strategy and that helped our desision,'' he said.

Those bold bits indicate a sacking to me.

Funnily enough, I thought he was okay this year, and that the absence of Hayes and other key players for prolonged lengths of time might save him.

Having said that, he is a hack.

Just read that report on The Age and also on Foxsports.

As usual, the f****** useless AFL site still hasn't got anything posted.

They ought to be embarrassed about the way they are continuously beaten to the punch by the media outlets.

It's 45 minutes since it was first posted here...what are the idiots at AFL.Com doing?

He had a great list. That is why St kilda is always in teh finals. They have great players. The reasons why they don't go further is because of their coach. Either get in some new blood like Harvey and see where it takes them.

The other 15 clubs might be a bit more worried now.

Right decision, but 3 years too late.

I hope now clubs pick away at St.Kilda's list in the hope of getting some quality players.

Whatever you do, Harvs, stay away from this rabble. Why doesn't Harvey just have himself appointed playing coach and be done with it? Between he, Burke and Leowe they have ruined every coach they have had in their careers.

Although, in fairness, it was Thomas who helped them oust his predecessor in a bid for personal glory, so what comes around, goes around. Farewell, Cornflakes. You will be missed by no-one.
