Foot skills this year

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Foot skills this year

Post by Gyoza »

Finals time is the only time of year I make time to watch the other clubs play.

Having watched 3 of the 4 finals thus far, it stood out A LOT just how often the players from these teams hit each other on the chest when passing by foot.

I'd really like to see a whole lot more of that from the men in red and black in '08. Priority #1 for preseason training methinks.

I agree absolutely. Two other things that stood out to me, too, were the strength of the tackling (none of this zoning off rubbish) and the creative use of the interchange bench (particularly by Malthouse). We used to be good at these two aspects but haven't been for at least 3 years.

footskills can be directly correlated to quality players

We simply dont have enough of them.

Think about it, from 2000 we have now lost Misiti, Mercuri, Blumfield, Caracella, Wallis, Long, Bewick, Hird, Barnes and to a degree Ramamnauskas. They could all thread the eye of the needle with their passing by foot.

Not much left these days

Quality footballers are born with good skills that need fine tuning, we dont have alot of them on our list. We have alot of hard workers ie. pev, stants, jj who work very hard to win the footy but skills arn't ready made. They dont need fine tuning they need to learn them.

Bullshit. So players dont learn how to kick until the age of 20?

Its all in the mind I reckon. When you are under pressure or moving quickly, good players will still hit a target, be it 20m away for 45m.
