COUNSELLORS at an exclusive drug treatment facility in Malibu are scouring Los Angeles in search of Ben Cousins.

Sources close to the Summit Centre in Malibu told The Australian yesterday the 29-year-old failed to check in, as scheduled, on Monday.

They say they are worried for his safety.

"No one has any idea where he is," said a person with knowledge of the situation.

"He's got everyone freaking out because LA's not a good place to be out doing what he may be doing.

"I just hope nothing bad happens to him."

The fallen West Coast Eagle, who is battling addiction to cocaine as well as methamphetamines - one of the toughest drugs to kick, according to experts - arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday morning and was picked up at the airport by two mystery blonde women in a Mercedes-Benz sports car.

Friends Cousins made from his last stay at the $3300-a-day Summit Centre, who are recovering drug addicts, have left messages on his phone offering to pick him up and pleading for him to check in to the facility.

But they say he has not been answering his phone or returning their calls.

'We don't confirm or deny'

An employee at the Summit Centre yesterday refused to discuss Cousins.

"We don't confirm or deny that anyone is here or not here," she said.

West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett was stunned to hear of Cousins's disappearance in LA.

"It seems to us he never had any intentions to return (to rehab). We feel betrayed," Nisbett told The Australian.

Case adjourned for rehab stint

Perth Chief Magistrate Steven Heath two weeks ago adjourned a case against Cousins for possession of drugs and for refusing to undertake a driver assessment.

While the possession charge was later dropped, Mr Heath granted Cousins a 90-day adjournment so he could return to the US for another stint of drug rehabilitation.

Mr Heath ordered the footballer to reappear on January 21.

Cousins's bail, believed to be $1000 personal bail with the same surety, was extended until that date.

Outside the court, Cousins' lawyer Shane Brennan spoke on his client's behalf.

"The matter has been remanded for 90 days with a view to Mr Cousins continuing the course of action he adopted early in the winter," he said.

Cousins spent a month at the Mediterranean-style treatment centre, nestled in the Santa Monica mountains with views of the Pacific Ocean, in April.

Patients are not usually allowed to leave the grounds until well into their rehabilitation, but are pampered while there.

The 2005 Brownlow Medallist and six-time All Australian has said he wants to continue playing football, but that dream would surely be in tatters if he fails to complete drug rehabilitation.

Cousins footing $90,000 rehab bill

He was due to spend at least a month at the Summit, although West Coast is not paying the bill, as the club did in April.

Cousins was believed to be footing the bill himself for this stay, an estimated $90,000.

Cousins was sacked by the Eagles for numerous breaches of the club's conduct policy, the final straw coming with the possession and driver assessment charges.

Embarrassingly for the Perth police, it was revealed that the drugs charges were laid because Cousins was found with a banned sedative, diazepam.

However, that drug is only illegal in injectable form.

Cousins's on-field brilliance has long been dimmed by his off-field behaviour; he has had numerous run-ins with the law and has been warned by police about his continued association with known criminals.

Bloody moron.

Even I'm not going to bother defending him this time.

IF it's true. I've heard that the rehab place has more than one location, and the media is pissed because they couldn't find out which one he was supposed to be staying at, no-one would tell them anything, so thier fishing with this to make him pop his head up.

Benny, IF this is true, then he needs a good, hard kick up the arse. But if it isn't, then exactly what has he done wrong this time?

It's like I've been saying for the past few days; the media made a huge deal about him bieng met in a Mercedes by two blondes. What, in the name of arse, is wrong with that, considering you'd be hard pressed to find a brunette in California to pick him up in a car that WASN'T a mercedes?

We have no idea, realistically, how much of this is accurate and how much of it is bullshit. And until I do know, I'm reserving judgement.

Ha ha ha.

Bloody champion. I love the way the say "bad things" can happen in LA. Californians are hysterical.

Why is it that Errol Flynn is held on a pedestal, but Ben Cousins is frowned upon?

I hope he knocks up both those girls on the bonnet of the Mercedes screaming out Nisbett's and Demetriou's name.

Fact is, he hasn't shown up to rehab. He was given special treatment to attend by the WA legal system. There was a strong argument that WCE had a duty of care to ensure BC was looked after once they terminated his contract, and to some extent, that is true. Where is BC's duty of care? He has so far shown complete disregard to anyone and everyone. And that is why I have absolutely no regard for him any longer.

But I take your point. Wait till we hear the full story. But quite frankly, I couldn't give a shit what happens to him.

Do not give a rat's arse what Benny does or doesn't do.

Vlad should ensure that he is never registered again as he has "brought the game into disrepute" or some similar bullshit.

The bottom line is the guy doesn't give a shit so why should we. If he showed the slightest remorse, then maybe. So far there has not been the slightest sign that he cares about anyone or anything.
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

This is the problem I have, BD. We DON'T know for a FACT that he hasn't shown up. All we have is the word of people who are quoting other people who may or may not have any bloody idea what's going on.

Until I hear a spokesperson come out - PUBLICLY - saying he hasn't shown up, I'll reserve judgement.

THE father of troubled footy star Ben Cousins has lashed out at claims his son is on the loose in Los Angeles.

Bryan Cousins denied his son had vanished despite concerns he had failed to show at an exclusive drug treatment centre in Malibu.

"I can assure you he is not missing," Mr Cousins told Herald Sun Online.

"I have spoken with him in the last 12 hours.''

Mr Cousins declined to elaborate on his son's health.

Drug counsellors have been scouring Los Angeles in search of Cousins after he failed to check in at the Summit Centre as scheduled.

Wild speculation erupted today, with suggestions Cousins had hooked up with actress Cameron Diaz at an exclusive West Hollywood gym, was partying before booking in for treatment, or was with former West Coast Eagles teammate Daniel Chick who is in the United States visiting his son.

AFL boss Andrew Demetriou said he was worried about the troubled footballer.

"I hope he's safe and sound and I hope he's about to check into the clinic as he's told everybody, but I think we should all be concerned about his whereabouts," Mr Demetriou said on ABC radio.

Fellow Brownlow medallist Brad Hardie today played down fears for his friend's welfare, saying Cousins was probably seeking some anonymity before getting help.

Hardie said he had not spoken with Cousins since he left Australia, but that he was in good shape when he flew out.

"I think he was just looking for a couple of weeks of anonymity and I have no concerns for his safety or for his health at this stage,'' he said on Southern Cross radio.

"He said he'd rejoin his network. Now, he didn't give me any specific facts but as we know there's a lot of fires in Malibu at the moment and there's certainly a lot of rehab places in America, so I'm sure at some stage he'll be touching base with that network.

"He's had a harrowing year, there's no two ways about that and I just think (he wants) a little bit of Ben time, little bit of down time,'' he said.

"Just give the bloke, cut him a little slack, just give him a couple of weeks to sort himself out and let's just see how he comes back to Australia.''

Cousins, 29, was due to check in at the rehab clinic on Monday.

"No one has any idea where he is," a person with knowledge of the situation told The Australian.

"He's got everyone freaking out because LA's not a good place to be out doing what he may be doing.

I'd love to know who he's pissed off in the media, because clearly he's done something to someone, for this kind of bilge to get printed.

Don't forget that there is a bushfire running wild in Malibu at the moment.

Just because some US version of Hutchy (or Hutchy himself) hasn't seen him walk through the door on his stakeout in front of the joint, dosen't mean that BC isn't getting treatment.

So if he did in fact turn up to the clinic, why don't they simply say so instead of saying "no comment"?

And seeing that you believed everything you f****** read, why have you changed your tune?

BD, with this particular clinc, most of the time you'd be lucky to even get a "No Comment" out of them. They are famously discreet.

Are they Keri? Did you see it on A Current Affair or Today Tonight? Was it the same episode you were on?

I wonder what they do when someone asks them a question. Do they just stand their in silence when someone asks them a question, or do they start performing Tai Chi?

I love it, the first lines of the article state Cuz's old man saying he is not missing and that he has contact with him in the last 12 hours yet then it spins back off into the speculation of he is missing...

What a crock of shit...

He now owes no one any thing, he has been sacked... He is no different to anyone else now. The only person or people he owes anything to is himself & immediate family. If he has gone to ground for a couple of weeks who could blame him. He has been arrested and sacked for having legal medication in his car, had every move watched and critisized by all. And now has the speculation of popping hollywood stars and going missing. What a f****** joke, if he was in trouble or missing Bryan would be on a plane over there (as any father would) to help and find his son...

And Benny, what ****** difference does it make to you whether he turns up at the clinic or not?

And the people who go in there pay for discretion, Hence the no comment, no ones f****** business who is in there or how long thay spend there!
