Very sad to here he is leaving, as been a fantastic player for Bendigo. Hopefully he will do well where ever he goes. Good to hear that Maddern and Pendlebury will be training with the bombers.
JORDAN Doering has quit the Bendigo Bank Bombers and ruled out joining a rival VFL club.
Doering confirmed yesterday he had ended his three-year stint with the Bombers, saying it was time for a change and to focus more on career opportunities.
"Bendigo has been nothing short of fantastic for me and I thought about the decision for a long while," Doering said yesterday.
"I'm sourcing all options and it's not so much about footy now for me, it's about career, which is a pretty important factor for me.
"It's got nothing to do with the football club, it's just time to move on for me."
Doering has already attracted plenty of interest from SANFL and WAFL clubs, but he's also contemplating returning to local footy and a possible coaching foray.
There has been speculation in recent weeks that Doering has been linked with the vacant Sandhurst coaching position.
However, the 27-year-old, who was this year named on the half-back flank in the VFL Team of the Year, says he hasn't spoken to anyone from his former club about the job.
"I've always liked the idea of going across and playing in South Australia, but it has to fit," Doering said.
"It's not about chasing money for me, the club has to fit, and if it does I will move, but if it doesn't, I will look at what's happening around town and around Victoria.
"But I definitely won't be playing in the VFL - my loyalty lies with Bendigo and it always will."
Doering has had a superb three years for the Bombers since returning to his home town from Tasmania in 2004.
The vice-captain won the best and fairest in 2004 and '05, and was just edged out by Ben Jolley for his third earlier this month.
"Jordan has certainly been a warrior for this club; he has played hard and his performances week in, week out have been outstanding," Bombers coach Matthew Knights said.
"We wish him all the best with whoever he plays for and what he does with his life and his job."
"Our preference as a football club was that Jordan would stay on and play for us, but it wasn't to be the case."
"I'm a coach who believes you want to be completely at ease with what you want to do and I was always going to leave it in Jordan's hands to make the decision with what he wanted to do in his footy career and life moving forward."
Callan Beasy looks like moving back to Swan Hill in another departure for the Bombers, who have already had seven players sign for next year.
Meanwhile, Justin Maddern will do two months of pre-season training with Essendon, starting on November 6.
"Justin is a wonderful young man and has decided to give it a really good shot of two months of quality training, and you never know what could grow out of that," Knights said.
Young defender Kris Pendlebury may also train with Essendon.
Maddern is a tall, skinny CHF who is very mobile for a big bloke. Looked very good early in the game at Geelong before betting injured, don't think I've seen him in any other games.
Don't know anything about Pendlebury, I remember a lot of the Bendigo players by their numbers.
Sorry to hear that Doering has called it quite at the Bombers. He has been by far our best player in the three years he spent with the club and will be missed for sure. Losing Blumfield and possibly Beasy with him is going to hurt the team experience wise next season unless they sign up any former (delisted) afl players.
Maddern seems to be a very exciting forward player (as long as he spend at least a year in the gym). Pendlebury was very impressive at full back for the second half of the season and it would be nice to see him perhaps get rookied by the Bombers next year.
He says it`s not about money, but the point is he was on ordinary $ at Bendigo and could double or triple what he was getting if he went interstate or suburban.
Bendigo isn't going to win a flag with the list they have at the moment. Compared to Sandringham's VFL listed players our boys may as well be playing for Diamond Creek Reserves...
After both drafts they really need to go after any delisted players not picked up.
