Winderlich in the GF Sprint

Post by Boyler_Room »

Fevola won off a 6m start but Winderlich came 2nd starting off scratch along with Danyle Pearce and a couple of other boys.

He's obviously quick. Looking forward to him being back in the middle next year.

Was clear second, so would have won if Fev started with the rest of them.

Need his speed next year. He was playing some good footy before the leg injury. Here's hoping that he is a late bloomer and really comes on soon.

Good news! Presumably it means he has fully recovered from the broken leg.

Fev went off a handicap? Humph. Typical Carlton.

Handicap was for being slow upstairs, rather than in the legs ;)

Can someone please tell me what the hell this all proves? The winner of a GF sprints has a 6 metre head start. Surely you find out who's the fastest over the same distance. Morons.

Licker did very well considering he is coming off a broken leg and Fevola got a twenty metre start.

Winderlich also got a handicap.

Pearce was the only player off scratch.

Yah thats what I thought too.

Pretty sure Winder was off 2 mtrs. Beat Pearce by about that too.

Fev was off 8, so he had 6 off winder.

They handicap because that is what they do in professional racing. Anyone heard of the Stawell?

They've run off scratch for the last how many ever years they've run it. And at least at Stawell the handicapping isnt ridiculously biased.

I thought he had "arrived" until he busted his leg which sorta summed up our year! :(

Sorry Bonce, I didn't think it was that biased at all, in fact I was surprised by the pace Fev displayed over 92 mtrs for a top heavy full forward. He did very well up against mostly outright midfielders.

I was expecting a quick 20-3 mtr burst from him but thought they woud peg that back easily after the 50 mtr mark but it wasnt to be.

All in all I liked the format

Not Biased? Fevola being able to slow down to a jog over the last couple of metres and still win it by 2-3 metres doesnt mean it was biased?

So let's have the Melbourne Cup with horses starting at different markers. What a crap system. First over the line from the same starting point proves you ARE a winner. Starting ahead of everyone else and getting across the line first, proves NOTHING.

Actually, the Melbourne Cup is also a handicap race. Horses are handicapped by weight.
