The F/S rule is one of the great traditions of football. As you said, imaging one of Hird's kids if they decide to take up the game playing for a team other than Essendon. Imagine Watson playing for another club!?!

And maybe Connolly, just maybe, no-one has ever supported you because it is a stupid idea, and you are an absolute tosser. Not our fault Melbourne are shithouse and don't have any decent F/S picks coming through (same goes for Freo).

One of the worst ideas I've ever heard.
Whatever drugs this guy is on, I don't want any of them.

I was pretty annoyed to see Hird at the game on Monday.

I would prefer him and Tanya to be on the job 24-7. I'm wanting at least three more sons to complete a full goal-to-goal line.

Get crackin Hirdy. The biological clock is ticking.

Somebody should inform Connoly that the father and son rule was brought in by his pathetic excuse for a club, Melbourne, so they could obtain the services of the sell-out Ron Barrassi.

He's got atleast 8 weeks now where he can change his primary goal to this very subject, so get cracking scotty ;) haha

here's a stupid yet interesting thought, I wonder in AFL clubs will start adding clauses (i think that's the right word to use, if not I'm sure jimmy or staggy will correct me) to their contracts for players who have played over 100 games that states if they have a child that is picked up through F/S and plays over x amount of games (say 100 as that continues the F/S) the father of the F/S child recieves a bonus payment.

Don't ask me why I thought of it but I thought it was interesting, just like when say in Soccer when one team buys another often there are clauses that say once the player has kicked a certain amount of goals the team who bought the player will have to pay the team he came from a bonus.

What is wrong with what Connely is suggesting? His opinion does have merits. I do agree I like the idea of having teh F/S rule as it is great idea to keep the tradition going. However the draft is compromised by the rule. 15 other clubs missed out on getting Gary Ablett Jnr.

The draft was brought in as a way to introduce young players into teh competition and help the clubs at the bottom of the ladder. that is compromised when a club that finishes 16th is told they can't pick certain players because of their bloodline.

COnnely's opinion does have merit.

Also I think alot of people are forgetting that there is now a bid for these players so no longer can you pick up garry ablett jnr with pick 35 or whatever because other clubs will say I'm willing to use my first round draft pick to get him and if the F/S club does not match it then to bad.

Yes Chris, because it's such a rubbish idea that no person in their right mind would even give thought to supporting it.....

....Er, i did say "no person in their right mind".

Phew, that was close. I nearly made a complete knob of myself.

So you are saying that if there was no f/s rule that Gary Jnr would have been playing for all 15 other clubs?

You f****** idiot

The draft is compromised by priority picks, it's been compromised whenever a new team has come into the competition and it will be compromised when the Gold Coast and Western Sydney teams come in.

The draft is compromised when teams like carlton tank games so that they can get a priority pick.

The father/son rule pre dates the draft and is one of the few good things that the AFL haven't completely stuffed up in their quest for a socialist competition and the mighty dollar.

Leave the rule alone.

Oh...and Connolly is a tool.

Carlton did not tank. By saying they did is saying, they were actually good enough to win the games they lost.
Getting the priority pick, yes that is correct.

Also based, on what was posted immedatly after my last one I take back what I said. I forgot others teams got a chance to get those players now.

Your not that f****** dumb are you? How the f***, did you draw that conclusion? Did 15 clubs miss out on getting Gary Ablett? Yes. Not one club, but 15 other clubs. They all would have had a chance to get Ablett to there god damn, f****** club.

Precisely. You have to have your head in the sand to believe that Carlton didnt tank.
