Votes Round 2

Looks like nobody wants to start so I'll give it a go:

3. Hille...tried hard all day and was one of the few senior players to stand up today
2. Dyson...ran hard all day and provided a lot of run and link ups
1. Ryder...beat Mooney and was clearly our best defender

Honourable mentions for Rama & Nash

5. Ryder
4. Davey
3. Nash
2. Stanton
1. Hille (except for the kicking at goal).

Surprised that Dyson is getting votes - was pleased to see him get a bit of the ball but geez he butchered it and was watching too often as the ball went the other way. Much better effort than last week, though, I'm chewing on my words and they taste pretty crap.

I very rarely give 5-1 and who would have thought id do it in a smashing loss.

5 Ryder
4 Houli
3 Ramanauskas
2 Davey
1 Fletcher

Bit stiff...Dyson, Michael,

I thought Hille was terrible. Our whole ruck division got smashed by a 3rd string player and a Gumby who has rarely kicked the ball in his life let alone 2 goals. Laycock however 1 thought contested hard worked as hard as he could.

Couldn't resist having a go at Dyson, yet you have Stanton in your best players. Stanton didn't chase, barely tackled, fumbled when under no pressure and turned the ball over a ridiculous amount.

You really need to get some objectivity when you talk about Dyson. He played his guts out today, chasing, tackling, running to provide an option.

How you possibly got Stanton into your votes is beyond me. He gave up the ball on at least 3-4 distinct occasions when he was not under pressure, barely chased and was largely ineffective. When Kelly through the ball at him after another cock up, it summed up how I felt about his performance...Kelly's gesture was one of contempt.

STANTON GETTING VOTES?!?!?!?!

Please forward me a litre of whatever it is you blokes are on. Clearly it's the most potent substance available here on planet earth and y'all have found an inexhaustable supply. Do you bath in it? f*** me. The bloke was thieving oxygen for 99% of the game.

Andrewb obviously you have dyson and Stanton confused, can be the only explanation for your comments and votes.

Fair enough... first melbourne game in a while that I haven't been to so I was only basing it on what I saw on the TV. Hence didn't see much stuff off the play. I gave stanton votes because of his efforts in the second quarter when the game was getting completely out of control. Kicked a beautiful goal from the pocket and then could have had two more. Really tried to fire the team up. Failed. Then, at the end of the game, when we looked completely stagnant, he was the only bloke who kept presenting for kick-outs.

I pretty much agreed with Camporeale's comments on Dyson:

“It was also good to see Ricky Dyson get a fair bit of the ball. Although he probably wasn’t able to hurt the opposition as much as he has been able to over the pre-season, it was good to see him bounce back from last week.”

Was on the end of a lot of handball chains but stuffed up the kick forward. I also really didn't appreciate the moment 18 minutes into the second quarter when he zoned off as Davey chased and tackled two blokes on our half forward line in a three on one resulting in a goal to geelong.

Don't get me wrong. He was MUCH better than last week. MUCH better. But from what I saw on the tube he didn't warrant votes.

Given everyone else's comments maybe he was better at the game than in the box... And perhaps Stanton was better in the box than at the game.

After watching a replay of the game (wow, that was painful), I should have factored Alwyn Davey into the voting. Sorry Alwyn, you did bust your guts today, sorry I din't acknowledge it. Oh, and I didn't realise Lonergan did so well in close.

Sometimes you don't get to see everything when you're at the game.

3. Rama (despite enormous pressure in the backline, always kept his cool)
2. Ryder (beat Mooney easily)
1. Hille (tried hard; pity about the goal kicking)

Others worthy of a mention:
Davey (chased and tackled as always but almost never rewarded by the umpires)
Nash, Michael, Fletcher (I thought they all held up pretty well considering how often the ball was coming down there)

My two cents worth on the Stanton/Dyson argument:
both got a fair bit of the ball - weren't our worst players, but had little effect on the game
