Something is rotten in the state of Denmark

Post by timbercote »

With thanks to Shakespeare

Horatio:
He waxes desperate with imagination.

Marcellus:
Let's follow. 'Tis not fit thus to obey him.

Horatio:
Have after. To what issue will this come?

Marcellus:
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Horatio:
Heaven will direct it.

Marcellus:
Nay, let's follow him.

Congratulations, i too studied Hamlet in year 11, but for the benefit of the vast majority of the population who neither know nor care for translating medieval playwrights, perhaps you should elaborate on what you're trying to say and even apply it to the Essendon Football Club where relevant.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark-the fish is rotting from the head down—all is not well at the top of the political hierarchy

There have been some hair-raising goings-on outside the castle at Elsinore. As the terrified Horatio and Marcellus look on, the ghost of the recently deceased king appears to Prince Hamlet. The spirit beckons Hamlet offstage, and the frenzied prince follows after, ordering the witnesses to stay put. They quickly decide to tag along anyway—it's not "fit" to obey someone who is in such a desperate state. In this confused exchange, Marcellus's famous remark sustains the foreboding mood of the disjointed and mysterious action.

The side is not playing well. The coach is receiving a lot of crtiticism for being inflexible. His statements are at times,a little confusing to state the bleeding obvious. imo the coach seems to have lost the players.imo the players are not playing according to his plan . There hsve been injuries. We are still awaiting the result of the inquiry. etc. You make your own judgement

Personlly I would have gone with

"A Midfielder! a midfielder!, my membership for a Midfielder"

or

"Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this first round draft pick"

or

"Alas poor Knighta, we didnt get to know him well !!"

But what has Denmark got to do with us?

And do you mean Denmark the country or Denmark the nice little town about 50ks from Albany?

I'm so confused

Sounds like a Sheedy quarter time address. You're 12 months late. He's gone.....

Studied Hamlet in Year 12 didn't mind it, but I never thought I would see it on a footy forum, especially not that part of it on a Bomber forum :(
