How did we forget Jason Laycock?

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

How did we forget Jason Laycock?

Post by Doctor Strangelove »

Everyone seems to have got praise except Jason Laycock, who was given the unenviable job of stopping the Freo ruckmen going forward. He also rucked very well when called upon.

Let us all give praise where praise is due. Let's finally get on Jason's band wagon because he deserves it!!! =D> =D>

aah...no he doesn't...he's got a long way to go before deserves any praise after seeing him live yesterday. He's as soft as butter in a hot frying pan.

Ryder gets thrown around in many situations! Do you call him soft as butter - similar build!

I'll stick up for the Cock. Thought he did some good work in the last quarter (apart from that dropped mark) and dropped into the hole on several occasions. Together with Paddy and McPhee they blanketed the Freo forwards in the air.

I cannot understand why we did not double team the giant (or giants) with either Chook or McPhee coming over the top. You wonder about the effectiveness of ruckmen at the bounce or throw in when they domintaed the hit outs and we murdered them with the clearances.
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

Absolutely, easy easy uncontested mark under totally no pressure. Saw the ball being bombed into the Freo forward line, saw an Essendon player camped under, then saw it was Laycock and thought "oh shit".

3rd quarter...Freo going forward and kick the ball into a space just inside their 50metre zone. Laycock had the opportunity to go back with the flight of the ball and take a mark....instead he just watched it sail over his head and Pavlich was able to mark it. Laycock didn't even try to get to the ball....it was the most pathetic effort I've seen from him. He got dragged straight away.

And Ryder getting thrown around isn't being soft as that would mean that he is in the contest...unlike laycock

Ryder is an instinctive player and reads the movement of the ball beautifully. Laycock is a impulsive player who is inconsistent at best and infuriating at worst.

Laycock - (not unlike Kepler Bradley) - should not be given time to think too much about the game. He should be sent out there with 2 or 3 basic instructions for the day and be measured against how well he performs these assigned duties. Using him as a defensive battering -ramp and as a lose defensive tall, is probably the best place for him to harden up and develop some stamina and skills.

His last couple of weeks have shown some improvement - however this has coincided with wins and Hille dominating the ruck duties.

You are kidding?? Jason Somerville Laycock deserving praise! He deserves a spot in the Bendigo 2nds and to be delisted at seasons end - A total waste of space. Comparing the poor efforts of Laycock to Paddy Ryder is ridiculous.
