R7 Essendon v Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium Match Thread

Post by BenDoolan »

Well I'll be there tonight. And one thing I want to see is seeing us get off to a good start. I'm sick of seeing the opposition kick away to a 2, 3 or 4 goal head start even before we put it in first gear. It is pissing me off no end. Perhaps our boys need to shift everything ten minutes earlier, just so they're bloody ready when the first bounce is delivered.

I will be watching at home thanks to this stoopid cold. We must start well and keep in touch in the first quarter. Our first quarters have been absolute sh*te all year and if we give Hawthorn a yard they will take a mile.

Get TD to run through half of them before the game in the name of 84/85. If you can't get respect and motivation from him then you shouldn't be playing the game.

Just give it a go and play with free, but accountable spirit.

Hawthorn will have notched up this game so run and work hard. They don't have those players in abundance, especially in terms of match fitness.

Don't be afraid as a 19-23 year old player to bump and knock them - and get in their face. They won't expect it - they expect a walk-over!!!!

Furk them!!!!!!

Yeah we definately cant afford the Hawks to get 3 goals ahead or more after only a few minutes. I have a feeling that the first half of the first quarter will really show us whether or not the boys will get close tonight. Hopefully Pears/McPhee/Hooker can get on top of Buddy early and not let him grow into the match and get his confidence back.

our first clearance and we run and kick and mark but then hand ball into danger and results in another hand ball straight to a hawks player :(

Great first quarter it seems.... we did exactly what we needed to do. The Hawks have been pretty wasteful with 1.8 though but it doesnt seem that Buddy and Roughead have had much of an impact yet.

From looking on the afl live updates its great to see that Monfries is up there in possessions already. Stanton as usual leading the way for us!! Houli has had 7 possies as well!!

Still have to be careful of Sewell because he has had 10 possessions already.
