Another Dons filled xmas stocking again...
Another Dons filled xmas stocking again...
Just wondering if there is anybody out there who just receives too much Essendon apparel every christmas from their loved ones?
I told my parents 2 years ago, no more Essendon stuff, beer or chocolate is fine. To my surprise this christmas, a brand new red Essendon t-shirt, as well as a new 2009 Guernsey. When I told my parents that I already had 4 guernseys and about 6 t-shirts (all from previous seasons no doubt) they said "But this one has the 2009 Samsung sponsors logo on it".
I'm very grateful for the gifts, but by buying me new ones I'm now less inclined to wear my old ones (which i still love dearly) and I know they're not cheap so to me they're wasting their hard earned. I reckon I've gotten to the point where i could wear Essendon apparel for 12 straight days without having to wash them.
By the way, I'm 30 years old !!
What is our fascination with having the latest and greatest? To me it's just another example of our wasteful world.
Does anybody else out on BT suffer the same easy christmas giftings?

I got my first bomber apparel this year (age 33). I've been waiting since the age of 6 for something like this !

There you go BP..you can 'donate' to Hillchaser who can wear your older stuff...lol
Re: Another Dons filled xmas stocking again...
I hear ya BP I am sick to death of getting Essendon things as much as I love the club it is getting to a ridiculous state in my room. I have a whole drawer in my room assigned for all my Essendon clothes and I have barely worn them. If I go to the footy I wear my guernsey and if I go out I will just choose a shirt if we won on the weekend etc. I love the thoughts behind the gifts but they become a bit too much sometimes.

Gear is a bit harder to access down here in Tassie, as the AFL shops here - in my neck of the state anyway - all closed up shop. Theres two stores in town who sell bits at pretty steep prices, so mostly I have to buy my gear myself! But I usually manage to get something each Christmas anyway... this year it was a glasses case - I don't wear glasses
Tho it's ROOMY so it's for my sunnies ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I *wish* more people would buy me footy clothing![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Insist that no one gives you any presents, and i guarantee you'll stop receiving things you don't want. I switched to a "no Christmas presents policy" 8 years ago and it definitely makes Christmas better and less stressful.

Jimmy, I'm doing that with my sister and her fam (barring the niecelets) for birthdays... I'm over worrying about them. Birthday and Christmas presents are largely for kids. I'd rather people went and spent their money with TEAR Australia IMO. My fam don't get too carried away with the present thing.

Yep. Bottom line is that i have everything i need, and whatever i don't have, i can easily afford myself. I just don't see the point in people giving me presents; if they really want to give someone something, give it to someone who needs it.Megan wrote:Jimmy, I'm doing that with my sister and her fam (barring the niecelets) for birthdays... My wife bought me the Sheeds book - "stand your ground" - haven't started it yet (too busy watching cricket and going to beach - yep I'm on holidays
) but can't wait to get into it.
Also, I received my membership pack today - a beach towel, and umbrella, a hand towel (perfect for cleaning off the sand wedge!) and other Bomber stuff. I friggin' love it! (Except that the umbrella is a bit cheap and fragile). Having said that the club also included my 4th hat in the 7 years I've been a member. At least I can give the old ones to my kids.

Yesterday I was wearing my new bomber polo shirt and my son goes and breaks his arm and ... so I end up waiting around the emergency area of Sandringham hospital. And who should walk in but Damian Hardwick with his wife and girls. He kept looking over at me with my top and I meant to speak to him ..but just when I worked up the courage it was off for X-rays.hillchaser wrote:I got my first bomber apparel this year (age 33). Would love to know what he thought of getting traded to Port. Basically BOG in a premiership so I'm sure he doesn't care but as an Essendon supporter I hated loosing him. Will certainly end up as a Senior Coach one day.

The last time I wore an Essendon t-shirt was on 18th September 1999...

Yeah my son is better after a couple intense days and an operation later. For anyone with young kids ... don't let the uncle play on the trampoline at the same time as your kids.
Yeah I used to live in Cheltenham and Sandy is a good hospital. My Daughter was born their a couple of months ago and back in the mid seventies I was as well.
Hey BonnieD - I know that date you are talking about. One of the worst days in my life. I was at the game and had a GF ticket for the next week which I chucked away after that game.
