The club innovates one more time by posting an update in Japanese (link to be found on the front page). I think this is great :) . Essendon will become Japan's most famous footy club ...

Now for the "Not so serious part", I fed a section of text that I believed was interesting (it had some of my favorite players like Fletch, Spike, MJ) to a web-based "translator" (at least Kanji/Kana to western characters- romaji).

http://www.j-talk.com/nihongo/

Here is the result I got which I could not resist sharing with you guys.

Besuto
(best)
sukotto. ruukasu, maaku.makkuvui, deemian.pevuriru, dasuten.furecchaa, angasu.monfuriizu, riiroi.jetta

I particularly liked Dasuten Furecchaa. Also MJ and Ryder did not make it in Japanese, too bad.

Oh god they leave themselves open to all sorts of racist piss with the names translated like that. Good lord.

Sorry Megan, you misunderstood. The Japanese language is used to transcribing english/foreign terms using syllabic katakana (which my program converted). The Japanese have been following baseball passionately both local and US for years using this technique and have been importing importing countless English terms (like besuto) and I am thrilled they are interested in Aussie rule.
The club did nothing wrong, no one is racist far from it and I am just a bit silly to find the transcriptions funny.

The club didnt'really start this "innovation."

Maybe they didn't, but they are certainly doing a much better job of it than any other club.

Look (or rather don't look) at the pathetic AFL/Telstra imposed website of the 15 other clubs.

I'm referring to clubs overseas already getting into the Japanese market and also having a webpage.

Good also, but I really like the idea of having Essendon supporters worldwide and not only Aussie expats.
