First ever game

Post by Rossoneri »

C'mon fellas, what was your first ever match you went to. If it wasnt Essendon, when was your first Essendon match.

For me

July 15 1989, rnd 15 vs West Coast. Commonly known as the Windy Hill Massacre

Essendon 25.10.160
West Coast 1.12.18

Would've been a West Coast Eagles match at Subi. Might've been a match against Hawthorn late in the season in '91. I think the Eagles won but then of course lost the GF not long after.

The first match i vividly remember being in attendance at would be West Coast v Carlton in '93. Chris Mainwaring hit the post from a set shot banana kick with about 20 seconds to go and the Eagles lost by a point.

Those were the days. :)

First game was that Ansett Australia final out at Waverley, Essendon v Richmond, with 70,000 of my closest friends.

Next game came a bit later, it was a game against the dogs (99?) when we won by 4 points but had heaps of injurys. I was sitting bottom level Ponsford stand and couldn't hear the siren go off, the roar was so loud.

As a youngster when i was born i would follow my parents and uncles to the Carlton v Essendon games, first one in 88 or 89 parents told me. Not being from melbourne we only traveled to those games. The first game i can remember was Essendon v Fremantle in 95 at the MCG. ROUND 17 when essendon won 21.9.135 to 13.9.87. and hirdy kicked 5 straight. i can remember marking the footy when paul salmon kicked a goal. couldnt wipe the smile

since ive only lived near a Footy ground since the start of 2003 (brissy) my first game was Essendon V Lions, in the very early rounds of the 2003 season, we went down 100 odd to 60 odd, wasnt a great start and hasn't gotten any better, ive been to 5 games since then and have never witnessed a victory :( hopefully that will change when i see them play the swans in a few weeks time

My first game was in the early 90's at Waverley. It was St.Kilda and Melbourne and all I remember was Garry Lyon having a pretty goo day.

My first Essendon match was in 1995 against St.Kilda at Waverley. An easy win.

Early '60's. I can remember G.McKenzie 24, drop kicking for goal,as I sat up in a tree. Still a distinct picture in my mind.
It was very crowded at WH that day. The opponent is not remembered.

At the MCG?

If it was we won by 3 goals and were the only side to beat Sydney in Melbourne during the home and away series.

Essendon V Richmond at Windy Hill in 1966.

My dad was a gatekeeper at the time and let my sister and I in for free. We were saved some seats in the Reynolds stand by a police sergeant who was a friend of my dad.

The policeman would watch over us until dad was able to come up into the stand after 1/4 time.

Pretty sure mine was in 1979 at VFL Park against the Aints or Richmond. I'll have to ask Dad next time I talk to him to see when it was. Dad has talked to me about it and said that when Essendon lost I cried. I was only 3 years old though.

Saints v North at Morrabin in the early 90s. Probably 91 or 92.

First Essendon game was a few years after against Hawthorn, we won by about 60.

Essendon V Freo.

98 or 99??

Harveys 200th (I think or some milestone game???)

We got pumped by 96 points at Subi.

I came back with a couple of beers and some smart ass said "Gee we thought you went home" probably should have!!!

Mine was about 83 Swans v Scum (I got to play in the old fashioned little league when only two teams of kids played on the full ground...) Don't remember who won, didn't really care cause EFC weren't playing ;)

Next game was 84 Swans v Bombers...some scenario, got in playing little league, crowd of about 34k too :)
