Bit of a strange mix.

Locomotion - Kylie Minogue (AUS)
Whos That Girl - Madonna (US)
Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley (UK)

Another highlight for 1987, the 5 week run at the top of the charts for Paul Lekakis, with Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room). I think the cover says it all.

Good thing you provided that link BD as I didn't think they had charts that long ago

What A Mouth - Tommy Steele (AUS)
Good timin' - Jimmy Jones (UK)
Ally-Oop - Hollywood Argyles (US)

And I can't say I've ever heard of any of these songs but I think it's safe to say that music has improved since I was born

That must have been a long labour for your mum Patrick as Unchained Melody was a hit (probably number 1) in the early to mid 1960's

Don't worry JP...some songs have been around long enough to get a repeat at No 1 due the remix of a song or death of an artist...just watch, in 20 years time, Michael Jackson will have been No.1 again for a lot of kiddies...

Haha...Alley Oop - you legend!

I've been told that when I was a toddler, I used to rock to that song. And to Monster Mash and to Purple People Eater.

Very tragic!

I hope that wasn't from memory.

The amount of electronic music in that song is extraordinary. Paul must have been working three synthesizers at once.

Ben, thanks for the link to the site. I have the Australian Music Chart Book 1970-1992 so I didn't know what was number one when I was born.

I actually buy the CD single for friends, family and some clients of the No 1 song for their new born babies and everyone thinks its a wonderful gift.

Number One - 23 Dec 1968

AUS: Star Crossed Lovers - NEIL SEDAKA

USA: I Heard It Through The Grapevyne - MARVIN GAYE

UK: Lily The Pink - SCAFFOLD
