Jane McGrath passes away

Post by The Fly »

Jane McGrath has lost her long battle with breast cancer.
Very sad,as is the loss of any lovedone to the scurge on cancer.
She has been a true warrior for the cause. Condolences to Glenn familiy. RIP Jane.

From ninemsn:

"Jane McGrath, wife of former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath, has died after a long battle with breast cancer, Cricket Australia announced.

"It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Jane McGrath, beloved wife of former Australian cricketer Glenn and loving mother of James and Holly, must announce she passed away at her home (Sunday) morning," a Cricket Australia statement said.

"With Glenn and their two children by her side, Jane's wonderful life ended peacefully after a sudden decline in her health over the past week."

McGrath, 42, had surgery earlier this year and was recovering before complications set in, the statement added.

"Jane McGrath has left a lasting legacy through the McGrath Foundation, an organisation that is providing thousands of women hope - and support - in their fight against breast cancer," the statement said.

"The McGrath Family have requested their privacy be respected at this very difficult time."

The National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC) says Jane McGrath was a brave face of breast cancer who had the odds stacked against her.

NBOCC Director Dr Helen Zorbas said through her work with the McGrath Foundation, Ms McGrath had left behind a legacy of support for specialist breast cancer nurses to be provided across the country.

"The McGrath Foundation has received funding from the Australian government in the last budget of $12 million over four years to provide thirty specialist nurses to increase the information and support that's provided to women with breast cancer and their families, so that's a wonderful legacy," Dr Zorbas told AAP.

"I think that she has been such a brave face of breast cancer.

"While she fought very long and hard and very bravely, we've yet to develop the treatments that will effectively beat the disease once its spread to other parts of the body."

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd paid tribute to Jane McGrath, describing her as an inspirational figure whose legacy would long benefit others.

"I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Jane McGrath," Mr Rudd said in a statement.

"Jane's courageous struggle touched all Australians.

"Jane was an inspiration whose legacy will continue to benefit so many others."

Mr Rudd said his thoughts and the nation were with her family."

Sad news.

She certainly copped a lot of hurdles in the last 10 years.

On the news they said something about complications after surgery early last week. I guess that when in a seriously weakened condition it's easier to succumb to things that we put up with every day. A weakened immune system could have led to pneumonia, etc.

Those poor kids.

Bloody hell. Just when Glenn hangs up the boots to spend quality time with the family, this happens. Sad indeed :(

Chin up Pigeon.

I was really sad to hear the news - and when I had dinner with my Mum (she has survived breast cancer) last night - she just broke down - goddamn - even typing this makes me choke up.

Wasn't a good day at my house yesterday either (apart from the win)

My stepmother is 2/3 of the way through her chemo treatment at the moment, and she's really feeling it. I think the last thing she needed was to see that.

It seems almost everyone has been touched in some way by cancer. My mum fought and beat breast cancer and she'll always have the scars to show it. I feel better about it knowing that medical research is ongoing and continues to provide both men and women with the best chance of overcoming breast cancer. Cancer is a f****** insidious disease but hopefully we're getting closer every day to a cure.

Rest In Peace Jane McGrath.

Your fight was inspirational to everyone that knew your story. It makes you think how vulnerable we really all are. I hope Glenn and the children can cope with your loss. :(

Blimey, she really faced an aggressive and determined bastard of a thing. Beat breast cancer twice, then got it in the hip and then a brain tumour. It seems she was really dealt a cruel hand in life. Not fair at all.

Ditto. My mum has also had breast cancer and found it very distressing.

RIP.

The Devil will always look after it's own Filth... look at Hitler (among all the others of his ilk) led a charmed existence, evading numerous assassination attempts, costing the lives of millions

Yes, I too was shattered when that news broke. It also made me feel very, very angry as well.

You know, a friend of ours, a naturopath by profession, reckons that they've actually found a cure for cancer but that it's been shelved purely for economic reasons (she hates the obscene profits the drug companies make) I don't know...just another alternate healthcare worker's crackpot conspiricy theory?? ...who knows. But it often seems to me that that response is just too simple and glib. All I would add is that one should never underestimate the inherent evil that man can do.

Here is some material on "Cancer Demystified". I have attended several of John Toomey presentations on various topics. He is an excellent speaker and presenter. He has been used by some AFL clubs as well. There is a website called "Life Balance" with some interesting information in it....
