My 60 year old parents are about to update their televisions. Mum asked me what is better an LCD or Plasma and what brand. I said the best 2 brands I heard are Samsung & Panasonic. However, I can't tell the difference between an LCD or Plasma. We will be getting a larger television more for sporting so what would be better for sports.

I'm a plasma fan, although not of the energy costs!
I can't stand any ghosting at all, and although the new LCD's are pretty good when it comes to this, I can still notice it, especially with fast paced sports.
They take a huge amount of power though. I have a 50' plasma, and it chews up 480W. It is quite good as a heater in winter also!
Yeah, when their is a panning shot of action, LCD can blur a bit. Although they're pretty good these days.
I reckon they give a brighter, sharper image than plasma though.
LCD's appear to perform better in brightly lit rooms. I have a Samsung 50" which I bought after much research from the "Good Guys" (easily the cheapest)
It is fantastic but I need to keep the blinds closed as you get a lot of reflection. I also believe that Plasma is better suited to the larger screens.
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark
