TV Specs Question

Post by DYSON#2 »

Just wondering if any BT'ers can help me with a few specifications on a TV i was thinking of buying.

Can somone please explain what the "Built in HD Tuner" is exactly?

It also says it is "1080i HD Compatiable" and i have no idea what that means.

And also what the "HDMI input" is...

Thanks guys

I believe HD is high definition. But I don't know what I'm talking about.

just means that TV can be viewed at higher resolutions, if the tv show allows it....

from what you said i would say that the TV tuner can put out 1080i resolution (1960pixels x 1080pixels)

BUT it's whether the actual TV itself can handle 1080i is the question, 1080i TV's are quite expensive.. how much is the one you are looking at? and is it LCD or Plasma??

Saturday Night football on 10 is broadcasted in HD.

Personally, I wouldn't turn that TV down :)

ahhh yeah here's a tip for buying tv's

if it says:

1080i compatible = it can display 1080i shows or video's but you can't actually view it as 1080i

1080i Ready = the TV is full High Definition and therefore fantastic

normal TV = 480i
Digital TV = usually 780i (but can go to 1080i maybe)
DVD's = 780i
Xbox 360 = 480i / 780i / 1080i
HD DVD = 1080i

overkill for those things i would say, but yeah will do the job very nicely with room for future needs aswell since it is 1080i and you will only ever need 780i for those things you listed, if your not looking to get a 360 or PS3 or High Def DVD player soon i would get a bigger TV that is rated at 780i, but thats me ive got a 106cm plasma and it's less then 780i and it still impresses me while playing my Xbox 360.... 1080i is only for diehard fans that need that extra bit of clarity and can afford $1000+ HD DVD players lol

Get the biggest one you can afford. The man who dies with the biggest TV wins.

Careful, this model seems to be a tube (CRT) TV. Very heavy and bulky -despite the super slim claim.
I would buy a LCD TV. CRT is getting seriously obsolete and LCD has improved by leaps in the last year.

yeah i have been thinking a bit in past 24 hours and i thought if im going to spend money on a tv i should make sure its worth it so the old man is going to lend me a few bucks.
Hopefully i can find a LCD around 80cm but under 1500ish range. i have since learnt plasmas are not good for gaming and watchin footy etc so LCD it is

everyone says that and it's pure crap, the only problem you'll have with games and stuff if you have it on pause, or the same image on the screen for more the 7-8 hours, and who would ever do that?? and they all have screens savers anyway so thats just not an issue.....

i will say that LCD's are meant to have a faster response time so fast moving images are clearer but once again your talking about something so minor it's never going to be an issue

lol never mind me im just defending my choice to go plasma :P
