Pain in the ass pop-ups

Post by tonysoprano »

Somebody techno-savvy please help me.

Every time I open google chrome bloody pop-ups start coming up for "deal4me" and "adsaver" or similar bullshit promo's.

I delete the extensions through "settings"; I go to control panel - uninstall program - and try and get rid of shit that shouldn't be there.

One of them is "websearchers uninstall" - but nothing eventuates (it protects itself!).

I have Microsoft Security Essentials (not sure if that has anything to do with pop-ups) - but if someone can give any guidance on how to prevent this happening EVERY f****** TIME! I'd greatly appreciate it.

(I was born in the early 70's, perhaps some of you 90's/00's will prove your worth  )

See if this helps: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/deal4me-virus-removal/

Also searching on gooogle for "how to remove" and the popup name should get you on the right track.

These things usually install themselves when you install software & during the installation process there's an offer for 3rd party software to be installed (annoyingly checked by default), and also installed with just plain dodgy software.

Pain in the arse to remove as they protect themselves from uninstalling methods.

ESET has on online virus scanner which may help: http://www.eset.com/au/home/products/online-scanner/

I also have the Adblock extension running in Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... idom?hl=en

Go into Settings by clicking on the 3 horizontal lines at the right of the navigation bar.
Click on Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Show Advanced Settings.
Then go into Advanced Settings.

Under the Privacy subheading click on Content Settings. Scroll down to another subheading called Pop-ups. Click on 'Dont allow any site to show pop-ups'.

The only problem is that some sites you actually do need to allow to show pop ups. In this case you can add those sites to the Exceptions.

Hope this helps.

I had this late last year. It was so f****** annoying - it gets around pop-up and ad blockers.

What sort of "pop up" are you talking about now?
