LCD vs Plasma
LCD vs Plasma
Hey all,
My 60 year old parents are about to update their televisions. Mum asked me what is better an LCD or Plasma and what brand. I said the best 2 brands I heard are Samsung & Panasonic. However, I can't tell the difference between an LCD or Plasma. We will be getting a larger television more for sporting so what would be better for sports.

Also if you know of any good deals feel free to include.

Re: LCD vs Plasma
I've always (well alright, not always but for the last 5-10 years) preferred LCD.
Hard to explain exactly why.
We have Sharp Aquos and it is brilliant (as well as being all the TVs in 30 Rock).

I'm a plasma fan, although not of the energy costs!
I can't stand any ghosting at all, and although the new LCD's are pretty good when it comes to this, I can still notice it, especially with fast paced sports.
They take a huge amount of power though. I have a 50' plasma, and it chews up 480W. It is quite good as a heater in winter also!

Yeah, when their is a panning shot of action, LCD can blur a bit. Although they're pretty good these days.
I reckon they give a brighter, sharper image than plasma though.

LCD's appear to perform better in brightly lit rooms. I have a Samsung 50" which I bought after much research from the "Good Guys" (easily the cheapest)
It is fantastic but I need to keep the blinds closed as you get a lot of reflection. I also believe that Plasma is better suited to the larger screens.

BTW The most important rule when choosing a new TV: Go and look at therm yourself and pick the one YOU like best within your price range.

Re: LCD vs Plasma
Plasma if a bigger screen.
Decide what you think you want, eg 32", then go buy the 42". Really.
Play with the menu and controls in the shop...some are simpler and more responsive than others.
Panasonic Viera would be my choice. Excellent bit of kit. 42" minimum.

Re: LCD vs Plasma
This might seem like a quick summary but this is the result of weeks of research.
LCP is better for Blue ray and true high Def,: if you want an LCD get the Samsung 6 Series
Plasma is better it you watch old DVDs or Standard Def tv shows. If you want a plasma get the Panasonic V series
You can take that for what is worth and mount your own case.

It might be worth waiting for the 3D LED series to hit the shops...
