Fletcher clear to play
Star Bomber Dustin Fletcher will play against Brisbane in two weeks time after x-rays today cleared him of any break in his hand. Fletcher injured the hand just prior to half-time in the game against Fremantle and he did not return to the field after the main break.
The x-rays revealed Fletcher had severe bruising in the hand and, importantly, that there had been no break to any bones in the hand. Fletcher is now expected to train next week and play against Brisbane. It is important news for the Bombers who will have to deal with the dangerous two-pronged attack of Jonathon Brown and Daniel Bradshaw.
Essendon’s injury situation is improving. Jay Neagle – a late withdrawal from the Fremantle game with ankle soreness – is expected to be fit to play against Brisbane as is Bachar Houli (groin) and Henry Slattery (cheekbone). Darcy Daniher could also return from a back injury.
Heath Hocking is also expected to make his long-awaited return to football following groin surgery. It was supposed to happen last weekend but club medical staff opted to take a conservative approach with him.
Jason Winderlich’s season is over because of a back injury and he underwent surgery today. Medical staff report the operation went to plan. Courtenay Dempsey (shin) could be back in action within two weeks while Jason Johnson is another month away after aggravating a calf injury. A time frame for the return of Scott Gumbleton (collarbone

Sensational. Give him the two weeks off to let it heal and we will do Brissy, I've got a feeling about this.

I'm pretty sure it's just ice and elevation, especially in the first week or so.tom9779 wrote:Anyone know how to treat severe bruising, is it just ice, elevation and rest?

His hand was stepped on by Pav after a contest. Probably a good thing it had been pissing down in Perth for days prior to the game so the ground was soft to give way under his hand!

Ice for the first 24-48hrs for 20mins every 2hrs.
Then you can do heat in 3 days.

i'm past the three days, only a little bit of swelling and bruising. Does heat help?
Re: Fletcher clear to play
I doubt heat would help bruising. If it was muscle soreness or something like that then maybe.

At last, the footy gods are smiling on us...they have seen enough of our pain and suffering and have decided it is time to give the mighty EFC a break...unfortunately, we still have to deal with the dictatorship that is AFL and their evil leader Adolf Demetriou...

Re: Fletcher clear to play
When I f***** my ankle, to get rid of the bruising I alternated a heat pack with a cold pack. I don't know the theory behind it, but my physio recommended it, and it at least got the bruise moving (You know, dissapating from the original spot and getting the joint mobile again)tom9779 wrote:nomolos wrote:Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevationtom9779 wrote:Anyone know how to treat severe bruising, is it just ice, elevation and rest?

I alternated in twenty minute stages. So twenty minutes heat, twenty cold.

And if you've got any swelling, get some Lectric Soda laundry crystals (your local supermarket should stock it), stick a bunch of it in a sock or wrap in a large hankie, and apply to the area overnight. Draws all the fluid and crap out of the injury. Works a treat. Works best the first night of the injury, but should still be effective a week or so later.
Anyway, great news about Fletch. I got a good feeling about this game coming up. Just hope the week off doesn't cost us the momentum we've built up the past few weeks.
