Watch the game again and tell me how many times he was indecisive with the ball, never delevered to first option and either muffed a disposal or got caught with the ball.Rossoneri wrote:You are kidding aren't you? That was probably his best game for us, was one of the few players who could hit a target and actually kicked the f****** ball in the 1st half.84859300 wrote:As for Pris.......he needs a good month somewhere else, like Africa because he's doing no f****** good in our team right now.
Watch where he doesn't chase, shepherd, get under packs or provide an attacking lead.
Then watch where he leaves his man to run off him and then he points to three other guys as if it was their fault.
Then I'll look at the three disposals that he got away without any pressure that went over 20 yards between the HBF and wing, after someone else did the hard work for him.
If that was a good game for him, then I wont expect too much more from a guy who came to us with huge wraps as an elite midfielder and a game breaker and I'll leave him alone. His knee certainly can't be restricting the grey matter in his brain for this long, can it?

Re: Get rid of him!
The Batemen tag on Stanton tonight was good. Off the ball he was a pest, and Stanton was seen to be appealing to the umpires for holding a couple of times. But he didn't do much himself.
Welsh did a job on Hodge tonight too. Welsh took him out of the game. 1 all.
I wish someone had taken Mitchell out of the game, 'cause he was very good in the Q4.
They win 2:1.

Re: Get rid of him!
Stanton is pretty much giving us one great game then nothing.
He can't shake a tag - ugly troll Bateman was very good on him last night.
His good games are superb and we go along way to winning but I'm afraid those good games this year are just teasing us.
I wouldn't be crying myself to sleep if Stanton is let go trading time, or decides to go north.

And Stanton gets a hard tag because the opposition knows he can't break it, it is easier to tag him, and he gets alot of cheap kicks. His stats look good, but his actual effect on the game is minimal. Can only hope he has already signed with GC17.

Re: Get rid of him!
Some people are never satisfied! I thought Stanton did a terrific tagging job on Chance Bateman. Bateman only had 6 disposals and only 50% of them were effective. Well done Stants!
Seriously though, Stants was shithouse last night. Has been ordinary for several weeks, because he can't cope with the tag. But some of you need to work it out. If he is so USELESS as a footballer as you have stated, why is he getting tagged every week? And if you really believe he is useless without a tag, then Stanton being tagged won't make an iota of a difference to the result, yeah?
I will keep throwing up this shit, because they are facts - he keeps finishing in the top 5 in the Crichton Medal because, well...ummm....hmmm.....no other ******* midfielder (apart from Watson) has been as consistently good as him over the years.
But he has been piss poor lately - no question.
And....
Prismall - is looking a tad slow (in motion and thinking), but played well enough last night (good disposal) - which means he'll be dropped

I agree with this statement.robbie67 wrote:I think he is carrying something, but I also think it is minor, and he is bitching about the tags. If he's out there, he's good to go. And just another turnover specialist at the moment.

They did attempt to tag Watson, had Sewell on him. Watson ripped Sewell a new one.robrulz5 wrote:Very difficult to tag a player who is always in the thick of things.stryper wrote: Jobe is also doing a super job but did he get the hard tag tonight...?

He keeps playing like he has been for the last few weeks and loses trade value (and we get stuck with him)Mrs Mercuri wrote:Got into the worst votes tonight as well on MMM....
He is out of contract and only one of a few players on our list that has trade value... whats the worst that could happen...

By taking a good tagger each game.. isn't he doing his job? He's freeing up another player who DOES get lots of possies or whatever who isn't being tagged?
Strikes me that the opposition coaches give Stants a lot more respect than EFC fans.

Because our midfield (perhaps our whole team) has been shit for years.BenDoolan wrote:I will keep throwing up this shit, because they are facts - he keeps finishing in the top 5 in the Crichton Medal because, well...ummm....hmmm.....no other ******* midfielder (apart from Watson) has been as consistently good as him over the years.
Seriously, I am sick of Stanton. Who cares WHY he gets tagged? As soon as a tagger goes near him he gets shitty and doesn't try to play well. Not good enough.

Re: Get rid of him!
Well Stants is going to have to get over it pretty quick... until our young guys become gun midfielders he is going to be tagged every week.
Even if he did leave for the GC he would still be tagged in that team as well.

Right, so why single Stanton out when he's been better than 90% of the list?j-mac31 wrote:Because our midfield (perhaps our whole team) has been shit for years.BenDoolan wrote:I will keep throwing up this shit, because they are facts - he keeps finishing in the top 5 in the Crichton Medal because, well...ummm....hmmm.....no other ******* midfielder (apart from Watson) has been as consistently good as him over the years.

From Robbo's, The Tackle -
Matthew Knights on Brent Stanton. Tagged by Chance Bateman to the point of "unsociable", including verbal assaults as the pair were often interchanged, Knights did not question Bateman's attacks. Instead, he laid it on Stanton to work through it. In other words, "harden up, son". Interesting times for Stanton. Out of contract at season's end, it's believed the club hasn't yet approached Stanton to discuss a new deal. And they say he likes the sun and surf ...

2. He isn't putting in the effort required. Someone with his experience in our team and supposedly one of the top players should be leading by example. If he's in a tough situation, ie. a hard tag, play hard and try to beat the tagger. Don't spend the game whinging to the umps and starting little pushing matches with the tagger. When he does that he's beaten before the ball is even bounced.

Re: Get rid of him!
Thing is though, when a bloke like Stanton does get tagged, the rest of our team does absolutely f*ck all to help him out.
Watch Ablett get tagged - Selwood, Bartel, Corey, etc etc all do little things like bumping and blocking and shepherding to help him.
None of our guys go out of their way to help Stants and that pisses me off as much as anything.
