Best team of the 1990s
Best team of the 1990s
Was discussing this with some mates...who was the best team of the 1990s?
Contenders:
North Melbourne..top 4 from like 1993 to 1999...might have even been in prelim finals straight from 1994 to 1999. Two premierships. Three grand final appearances. Boasts greatest player of the modern era (i.e. Carey).
Essendon...one premiership and dominant year in 1999. Prelim finals in 1996. Semis 1995.
West Coast...two premierships but arguably not much else apart from that.
Carlton...1995 premiership would ahve been the most dominant team of the 90s. Grand Final appearance in 1999 also (arguably fue to us F****** the job up, but end of the day they did get there)
Adelaide....two premierships from impossible positions but really not much else to show for.
Thoughts?

Norf. We had our chance, and blew it.

yeah pretty fair comment...that 99-01 era was very disappointing in hindsight..really failed to capitaliserobbie67 wrote:Norf. We had our chance, and blew it.

Although in more recent hindsight '01 wasn't anywhere near as disappointing as '99.Choppy wrote:yeah pretty fair comment...that 99-01 era was very disappointing in hindsight..really failed to capitaliserobbie67 wrote:Norf. We had our chance, and blew it.
Aaron Francis is the Messiah.

Have to agree with this. '99 was just devastatingj-mac31 wrote:Although in more recent hindsight '01 wasn't anywhere near as disappointing as '99.Choppy wrote:yeah pretty fair comment...that 99-01 era was very disappointing in hindsight..really failed to capitaliserobbie67 wrote:Norf. Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

West Coast were pretty good too. As well as their two premierships, they made the finals every year during the '90s, including runners up in'91. I vote for them.
Re: Best team of the 1990s
The scum in 1995 were dominant, maybe more than Norf 96. 99 was ours to throw, which we did.
Re: Best team of the 1990s
We should have competed in 4 Grand Finals in the 90's, but only managed to compete in 2 and only won one.
Adelaide won 2 flags in a row, missed out on playing in 1993 because of us.
West Coast competed in 3 GF's and won two of them.
North competed in 3 GF's and won two of them (but were lucky to be up against Carlton in '99).
IMO, it's between West Coast and North in the 90's with West Coast being the stronger team overall.

West Coast. Made finals every year. Had to travel every 2nd week and had to travel in finals when they should have been playing at home. (I loved that MCG rule)

West Coast for mine. Only 4 yrs to make First grand final in 91. Go on to win the flag away from home on 2 occasions 92 & 94. Became a super club! The model by which other successful clubs have tried to follow. Brian Cook to Geelong and Malthouse to Collingwood. Both delivering eventual premierships
