Yeah, who have we tried since Sheeds went, Knights didn't work, Hird and Thompson haven't worked, but it ain't just the senior coach, who have we got back as assistant coaches?
Primarily former Essendon players who played under Sheeds; Harvey, O'Donnell, Wellman, Wallis etc. The ones that came from outside Essendon are Neeld, a failed senior AFL coach, Craig, a failed senior AFL coach, Egan, who is played entirely under Bomber.
The only blokes who have come from well outside our system have been Goodwin and Bassett.
Bassett is the only assistant coach we have who has experience in a recently successful football setup; coaching Norwood to back-to-back Flags in the SNAFL.
Has their been too much of a focus by the Club in getting Essendon people back to the club. Not just in the coaching setup, but after we finally f***** off Peter Jackson, we headhunted one of the best CEO's in the comp and got Ian Robson over from the Hawks and he played a vital role in getting TVSC project off the ground. Went he fell on his sword who did we get in, Ray Gunston (obviously part of the Essendon boys club) as interim CEO and then after an 18 month search we promoted from within.
Was David Evans made President because he was Ron's son?
When you haven't been successful for 15 years maybe it is time to look outside your own club to fill your most important positions?
The Hawks didn't turn around 20 years of ineptitude and pathetic on field displays by appoint a Hawks person as Senior coach, they went and got a good man manager who came from a successful system as an assistant coach. Hell going back we didn't turn around 20 years of ineptitude from the mid 60s to the mid 80s by getting another former Essendon player back as coach, we went and got a tough non-compromising bastard who had played in a successful system at Richmond.
