Re: O'Meara
Fair enough... I didn't think a player had that option if a trade was done...
I thought they either played for the club they are traded to or sat out the year...

If that was the case we would have traded Ryder to GWS who offered us pick 4 for him. He refused to go.Crazyman wrote:Fair enough... I didn't think a player had that option if a trade was done...

Very true. Bartel dodged a bullet there.Sismis wrote:If that was the case we would have traded Bolton for Bartel...BERT wrote:If that was the case we would have traded Ryder to GWS who offered us pick 4 for him. That's a bit harsh for a bloke on one leg. It's a long walk from Gold Coast to Melbourne.

Re: O'Meara
O'Meara might be a good player but his serious knee injury makes any trade very questionable. Only played 2 years out of a possible 4, showed a lot of promise initially but his last 2 years have been ruined by this potentially career threatening injury.
Buyer beware, especially when it's rumoured he wants $700000. per season.
I surely would not be giving up our No.1 pick for him.
I'd only take him if he was available in PSD, but not on $700k.

Re: O'Meara
we better not pay him 700k. thats insane. way too risky.
Re: O'Meara
We spend millions on shit lawyers. Pay millions to coaches to not coach. 700K for a gun player is chicken feed. Well worth the risk in my book.DC2 wrote:we better not pay him 700k. thats insane. way too risky.

none of that money goes toward the salary cap, so who cares.BenDoolan wrote:We spend millions on shit lawyers. Pay millions to coaches to not coach.DC2 wrote:we better not pay him 700k. thats insane. way too risky.
people around here act like we have no cap.
we still have to re-sign guys like jd and merret etc. if they see omeara at this stage getting 700k what do you think they will want. reminds me of tom boyd and the dogs.

700k for a kid that hasn't played for 2 years is way overs...even one as talented as he is...
500k max with incentives to increase the next contract if he can stay on deck...

People around here think we get gun players at bargain basement prices.
Put it this way, we'll have to offer him more than Hawthorn do. And if the Hawks can fit him in under their cap (with a list of multi premiership players), then I can't see how we can't.

Maybe not, but as mentioned, he hasn't played for 2 years, has dodgy knees and can come via psd...Gimps wrote:We wouldn't have a hope in hell if we offer him $500k.Crazyman wrote:700k for a kid that hasn't played for 2 years is way overs...even one as talented as he is...

What's the PSD option got to do with how much we'll pay him?Crazyman wrote:Maybe not, but as mentioned, he hasn't played for 2 years, has dodgy knees and can come via psd...Gimps wrote:We wouldn't have a hope in hell if we offer him $500k.Crazyman wrote:700k for a kid that hasn't played for 2 years is way overs...even one as talented as he is...

Why do I find myself going cold on O'Meara?
Is it perhaps because for the price, there are about a dozen damned good youngsters out there who may not offer the same upside but certainly don't come with the same downside.
Time to be smart and go with the percentage play. Draft wisely trade wiser.

Next year we'll be paying good coin to 10 or 11 guys who haven't played for a year and most of them are average or worse players.

You saying Watson, Heppel, Hurley, Hooker are average or worse and not worth the coin????j-mac31 wrote:Next year we'll be paying good coin to 10 or 11 guys who haven't played for a year and most of them are average or worse players.
