We'll see how many of their players are willing to take pay cuts in future.

They have traded out two proven elite mids past their prime for two just about to enter.

Including one we were deadset keen on as he is a once in a generation player.

O'Meara hasn't played a game in 2 years. Hope they get him in on a massive deal that pisses off the entire playing group and he then Gumbletons it up for next 4-5 years before finally being delisted with the Hawks at the arse end of the ladder.

its clear lewis left because he knew he was now expendable. was wondering how hawthorn were going to handle this period of turning over club champs to bring in young guns to replace. its always going to cause some angst and bitterness.

Future gazing..
By trading out club greats Sam Mitchell and almost certainly Jordan Lewis, Hawthorn could construct a million-dollar war chest to attack free agency at the end of next year.

The Age reports trading Mitchell to West Coast and Lewis to Melbourne was not a result of being squeezed for salary cap room to allow for the incoming Ty Vickery, Tom Mitchell and likely Jaeger O'Meara.

Rather, it was a considered plan to create an extra million-dollars space to pursue 2017 top-line free agents.

Gun Fremantle midfielder Nat Fyfe and Richmond star Dustin Martin are players the Hawks could target as the club looks to shape its list profile.

Hawthorn have screwed over some of their biggest players by nudging them out 'for the good of their future'. No doubt Hawthorn will be very strong in the next 24 months and have every opportunity to build yet another dynasty. If Mitchell, Vickery & O'Meara play majority of games without injury they will be unstoppable with the likes of GWS.

It's incredible that opposition teams are trading such quality players to them and shows how good their trading department is.

Didn't we have the same problem in '86 with 3 New Recruits at the expense of popular Premiership Players?

Next year will be the year to watch Hawthorn, they will clear the decks and let even more the players go. Hodge, Gibson, McEvoy, Burgoyne and several others.

Allegations of some suss deals re the Hawthorn deals from favored AFL mouthpieces ... main concern is regarding Vickery and skepticism whether the contract is for 2 years at $1M or 3 years at $1.2M... if the latter Rich would have matched and allegedly 5 other clubs wold have bettered. Indeed the first presser from the Hawks was welcoming Vickery on a 3 year contract (lasted all of 5 minutes online).

While there could be some further noise on the matter - the AFL seems to look out for certain clubs.
