First of all, I have no sour grapes for Joe, he owes us nothing, and good luck to him.
But I am pretty disappointed. Especially with the reason being "lifestyle" - although I won't be surprised if that's just the word EFC are using to make him look a bit bad. Maybe there's more depth to it.
Frankly I'm just surprised - I never really thought he'd go.
Medical reasons? - umm, no, we can get any specialist you want, from Melbourne, Sydney, London, New York, Paris, wherever.
Lifestyle? Please, what's the difference between Melb & Sydney? Nothing. And if it's about anonymity, that would have been fine, except by creating all these rumours and dragging it out for so long, you've actually just created your own non-anonymity, and expectations and scrutiny will now be sky high.

As for trades, I reckon it will get settled for Papley or 1st Round draft pick, plus a 2nd Rounder. Or maybe we'll get a Swans future 1st Rounder in return for one of our current picks mixed in there somewhere as well.
The Club sound like they want to play hard-ball, but surely it's just posturing. We won't get anything near the best from Joe in 2020 if he's forced to remain with us. Although....Geelong got plenty from Tim Kelly this year.

Joe is contracted and we want to keep him so this shouldn’t be a negotiation with the swans. They give up what we ask for or Joe sees out his contact. We better not bend over on this.

If the clubs haven't been talking about this, on an informal level of course, for some time ... then I'm a daffodil called Trixie

Lifestyle?

Well he could hardly publicly point the finger at the Strength and Conditioning Team, could he?

Particularly if he knows he hasn’t helped himself on such issues. The question is,did he help himself here,or take short cuts?!

Has Ben’s favourite Department had their review yet?

I'm hearing he is on the piss all the time...not good for an elite athlete undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation. Sorry if this comes across as insensitive but there is definitely more to this situation than is being discussed.

There was one reported “incident” when he had a glass of wine with his dinner (while injured).

If that’s the sort of problem we’re talking about, then the expectation on footballers are a joke.

Ever thought much more to this?
How do we know that this hasn't been on the cards for months?
Hasn't been on the park really for 2 years...
I think he is cooked...
Rumour was Seriously considering pulling the pin.
Possibly looking at finding Security as both the Club and himself know it's a Massive risk and prone to Breaking down again.
Yes they want to keep him but Not willing to Guarantee past 2020...
Just saying.

As I said previously, built to one good year with AA selection and club B/F, but last 2 years has been a liability when playing injured or just not playing.

Club can play hardball, if we get what we want we win the trade. If he comes good, congrats, but he ain’t no Franklin at the same age...

Jeez,I was questioning his match preparation and injury recovery from a physical point of view. Are you saying Windy,a problem existed elsewhere and more than just the one incident, referred to by Ben?

One report has him as co-owning a boutique miro-brewery in Clifton Hill and he apparently can at times be found where the product is sold (and the implication is that is where he gets much of his flack).

Not sure why he would feel the need to be in "regular" attendance, that's what managers are for (as an aside Tex Perkins is one off the co-owners of the Post Office Hotel in Coburg - he turns up there maybe 4 times a year sometimes for a gig, sometimes for business).

Gee,it makes you wonder if Joe was simply taking after TD?

TD loved a beer or three, but only you guys over there would have any inkling about when he enjoyed himself and when he knuckled down to work.

Of course, much of what was done with footballers and other sportsmen back in the day, isn’t the norm nowadays.

I've read a few different stories about what Joe has been up to.
Hiding his injury from the Club, and thus making it worse than it needed to be.
Not following his rehab program properly.
Having a few drinks too many. And yes, it's true he does have an interest in a brewery.
Also a possible love interest in Sydney.
How much of it's true? Or exaggerated? Will probably never know. As usual in these situations there are a lot of fans out there that now want to tear him down.

I think this bagging of Joe is bloody ordinary. Dead set rotten.

Whatever his reason, he’s been a great contributor for the club. He’s played over 100 games so his cast off can walk into the club.

We’ll get something decent for him, no question.

But pull yer heads in ffs

As soon as Joe said Lifestyle Windy,I just immediately thought that’s code for something else. Why is he really leaving?

If he’s cheesed off with us,fine. But if he’s not going to back himself up,saying who’s at fault for that, then it’s pretty easy for fans to be cynical about his Lifestyle reasons for wanting out!

no one is bagging the guy and I could say a lot more about Joe than is public knowledge. I wont as that is his business. But dont you think every Essendon supporter has a right to be a little pissed off with the bullshit reason being floated around as to why he is leaving. After all I and other members who contribute financially to the club deserve honest explanation from the club and player. Joe Daniher is our marquee player and is now wanting to leave. If that doesnt raise alarm bells what will.

Mate your habit of being quaintly contrary to any criticsm is becoming f****** boring

Not bagging him or questioning his undoubted talent and potential.

Great contributor? How? Had one very good season, since then injured, playing injured and a liability.

Yes we get something decent, but surely if he is worth that much you’d rather keep him?

There is logic, there is reasoning and there is you 🤪

Hahahaha...contrary...is your annual ponderings of trades that always includes Joe Daniher in your lust for better picks or nabbing an elite mid. Then when he wants to leave and we have an opportunity to get "better picks" or get "an elite mid", you go off about why "a marquee player wants to leave" and it should "ring alarm bells", and that we "deserve an honest explanation" because you "contribute financially to the club".

Now I could go on and on about your hypocrisies, but that would be boring.

So let me understand your views...it's ok to suggest getting rid of JD to gain better picks or players, but it's not ok for JD to explore another club that will give us opportunities to get top picks or better players?

Disgrace.

1 x AA
1 x Crichton Medal (+ 1 runner up)
1 x Anzac Day Medal
4 x Leading Goal Kicker

I'd say he's been a great contributor taking into consideration that his first 50 games would be a developing period. Compare his stats to say a Jonathan Brown at the same stage of his career, JD is well ahead.

Some people amaze me with their underestimation of this bloke.

Of course a Marquee playing wanting to leave the club is alarming - are you f****** stupid? You do know there is a difference between the club looking to cash in on the right trade and a star playing asking to be traded??? You do dont you?? Nah, didn't think so. But if he is going to leave then of course you want to leverage that into a decent return on the trade. Again I ask, are you f****** stupid???
Now I could go on and on about your hypocrisies, but that would be boring.

Go for it.

And in the meantime I will simply ask, are you f****** stupid??
So let me understand your views...it's ok to suggest getting rid of JD to gain better picks or players, but it's not ok for JD to explore another club that will give us opportunities to get top picks or better players?
What the f*** are you talking about????? So clearly you dont understand - no surprises there!! Yes its ok to suggest trading any player if the return improves the list - are you f****** stupid???? And please quote me verbatim when I said its "not ok to explore another club that will give us opportunities to get top picks or better players?
Disgrace.
f****** Stupid

Come back when you have something of worth to contribute.
