Those Shown the Door....
Re: Those Shown the Door....
Interesting - would have thought Hartley was more under the gun.
Says that the club has definite targets for the draft and/or preseason/SDP for the now 5 spots available.
Also says that there is now a certain amount of ruthlessness creeping in about list maintenance. Doubt this is a salary cap issue as I don't think that Brown was on much $,
Brown played 16 games this year - 6 of which he didn't kick a goal, 4 where he kicked 11 goal. When he was on he was great, but he also has dog gamess quite often.
It also says that the club believes that JD (25 years old, 200cm tall), Stewart (24, 196 cm), McKernan (29, 196cm) and maybe even Laverde (23, 191cm) and Gown (19, 195cm) can fill that sort of role. It also indicates the club believes these players should be fit to play this year.
Finally - it could indicate that there was only room in the club for one pornstar mustache.

Re: Those Shown the Door....
Brown stood up on several critical occasions and we were glad he was there. But when opposition teams woke up to him, most of us could see he had no future. When he was touted as our best scoring hope on one or two occasions, it sent shivers through me and although he was a hard working, honest contributor who tried his best most days, I think that losing him sends a message to say, if he's the best we've got on any day, we'd better give the season away and start a complete re-build. In short, he could never be the future of Essendon, even when the rest of the fwd line is on crutches. Ciao Mitch and thanks.
Re: Those Shown the Door....
Can we have him please? That’d give us 2 Mitch Browns.
Re: Those Shown the Door....
Seems we are looking at the delisted Callum Moore as alike for like replacement for Brown (Moore 193 or 195 cm [depends where you look], 93Kg; Brown 196cm 96 cm). Moore is 23 while Brown is 29. Moore also hails from Richmond where some of our new regime hail from.
The other thing to consider as part of the Brown delisting...
Next year, McKernan, Hooker, Hurley and TBell will all be 30+ and Ambrose 29. Brown also 30+. Bit of an issue with tall KPPs from 2021 given the uncertainty re JD and Stewart. Seems we suddenly go from having a glut of tall KPPs to a Dad's Army.
Time for BZT to get a game or two!!!

Reported that Hartley has knocked back the offered contract to look for opportunities further afield.
Sounds like he has already been offered a gig somewhere else.

Hartley knocks back Essendon offer, looks elsewhere

Defender Michael Hartley has knocked back a contract offer from Essendon and decided to chance his arm at continuing his AFL career elsewhere.
After spending a couple of years on Collingwood’s rookie list, Essendon picked up Hartley with selection No.68 in the 2015 draft.
Michael Hartley (right) has rejected a one-year deal from Essendon and will look elsewhere.
Hartley was a regular fixture in the Bombers’ line-up in his first two years with them, including the ill-fated 2016 campaign which was ruined by a raft of doping-related suspensions to star players, playing 37 of a possible 45 games.
But he struggled for opportunities in his last two years at Tullamarine, managing just seven appearances for the Bombers in that time for a career total of 44.
“We offered Michael a contract, but he indicated to us that he wanted to explore other opportunities,” Essendon football manager Dan Richardson said.
“Michael is a highly respected person at the club and his attitude and commitment to the program have been commendable.
“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Michael and wish him all the best with his future endeavours.”
Hartley has delisted himself which means he can be picked up as a delisted free agent by another club. He also has the ability to be drafted at the end of the month.

I can't really see him getting a go at any other AFL club, other than as backup/insurance as he was for us.
Re: Those Shown the Door....
Harts’ must have been following Mitch Wishnowsky’s early career!
Re: Those Shown the Door....
Great we have now burnt our bridges with a forward that is the most reliable kick in the club and a big backman who has stepped into the breach when Hooker and Hurley were injured. Surely we need some sort of insurance policy and we should have retained them.
Menzie!!
Things go awry without Jye!!

I'm not that upset they're gone really. We have enough to cover them, and needed to balance our list better with talls V smalls.MH_Bomber wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 12:09 pm Great we have now burnt our bridges with a forward that is the most reliable kick in the club and a big backman who has stepped into the breach when Hooker and Hurley were injured. What does worry me though, is how our VFL team will perform without them (Jok too). Definitely limited coverage there, so the VFL side might get pumped regularly, which will make it difficult to develop anyone to come up to AFL level.

Who says 2 of the 3 are leaving the VFL team? Not convinced that Brown and Jok will get a second home.nudder12 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 3:11 pmI'm not that upset they're gone really. Brown was cut on his age profile. Hartley could have been offered more (ie 2 years), but we are looking at a recruiting a minimum of 2 talls (one academy and one Richmond with Fletcher still on the hopeful list).
For a team that has so badly underachieved over the past 15 years, gee we rate our list highly... And then spend the rest of the season bitching about list cloggers and people going missing for weeks but still getting selected.
