I think the keyword is "presumably".

In reality, it's all guess work as noone really knows what's going to happen until the season actually gets underway... and a little ways into it.

Not going to go to the effort that Jimbob went to, too much for me.

2007 Premiers: Melbourne
Runners Up: Freo
Brownlow: Judd
Coleman: Lloyd
Rising Star: Gibbs
Essendon's position: 11th

Wouldnt have the faintest idea how the ladder will end up. Freo and Melbourne will be up the top as will the swans and WC. Adelaide will struggle without a decent forward line and without Riccuito.

I dont think the dogs will come on as people are thinking they will, though the cats will jump up the table.

Roos will finish last and brisbane just above them

At the end of the year this year, we have to bite the bullet and let a couple more players go and get another high pick.
Our past 3 years have been very good and if we can steal another 1st round pick this year then we would have fully rebuilt the list.

Houli will be a star this year, make no mistake about it.

Rosso, note the use of the word "presumably" in my post, and the inverted commas used when mentioning the word experts. I thought i made it pretty clear that i don't hold journalists' opinions up as gospels of all that is right.

All i was doing by posting the fact that none of 23 people interviewed thought we'll make the 8 was to point out the fact that plenty of us are either more knowledgable about Essendon than these media people, or we're not. The interesting thing is that most of the predictions posted thus far are pretty similar to those of the Age journalists and the 16 captains, with the exception being our opinion on Essendon. So, most of us seem to agree with the media reports on 15 other teams, but plenty of us chose to heaviliy disagree with the media's opinion of Essendon. As i've already said, that means there's either plenty of us who are smarter than the 'experts' in relation to Essendon, or who are overly optimistic.

If we play to our potential, we will make top 6. But potential is a funny thing.

We have a decent team, no doubt. Got the best FF of the last 10 years in and the TWO best FB of the last ten years. The midfield will get better with the pace and tackling being induced into it.
For us, its all about getting these kids experience and testing them out in the big league. As good as Houli, Jetta, Davey, Gumbleton etc might be (or will be), they have proven nothing yet. Get some games into them this year (Gumbleton probably not many) and lets see how they go.

I would prefer us to finish 10th and have Houli, Jetta, Davey, Ryder etc play an average 18 games each this year than get to 8th and have Campo, Cole, Heffernan and Peverill playing most of the games.

I think we all know that we are preparing for 08/09 assault, lets not lose that sight.

I can't see where this 08/09 assault will be coming from. By that time most of our senior stars will be gone or in their winding down twighlight years - Hird, Fletch, Michael, Lloyd, Lucas, Campo, JJ. Who have we got that will replace that sort of quality in the short to medium term, as well as fill in the additonal midfield gaps ????? We have got some 'potential young guns', but they're still far from proven. Realsitically, I see several lean years ahead

Your saying Lloyd, Lucas, JJ and Fletch will be gone by the end of the year? Pretty sure that 2008 comes after 2007. Campo is a dud anyway, I wasnt including him.

Lucas and Lloyd have at least 3-4 more years in them.
Fletch 2-3 (relatively injury free throughout his career)
Michael is only 28 years old, probably 2-3 years.

Hird will be gone at years end and JJ probably next year.

I think the Johnsons' and McPhee, etc who had a bad year last year, surely can't do the same again this year. That's why I have Essendon in 6th position.

Whats the obsesssion with the Dee's?

Melbourne arent that good. They have a frail backline line and if Neitz gets hurt then their forward line will be in big trouble.

The have a very good midfield, buts thats it IMO.

Where is there speed? Everyone goes on about leg speed in the modern game, where is theirs outside of Davey?

Hard to pick right now, I would have said WCE, but they have some issues with the drugs and all.

Swans could be there again. Freo are a chance. But too early to tell.

Cameron Bruce - quick
Colin Sylvia - quick
Clint Bartram - quick
Aaron Davey - quick
Travis Johnstone - reasonably quick
James McDonald - reasonably quick
Brock McLean - quick
Brent Moloney - reasonably quick

and ive probably failed to mention a few others who are quick.

Not exactly sure what thats supposed to mean.

Come on...Im talking about genuine leg speed. Colin Silva isnt slow like a scot west, but he isnt what I would call quick either. The same goes for Johnstone.

Bruce isnt a pacey player either.

LOL...McDonald!

Bartram has some speed as does Moloney(from what I can remember, havent seen him play for a while).

Going by that list you may as well add Brad Green and Yze in there as well

The Dee's havent changed there list much at all. They have had there chances the last few seasons and looked likely, but failed miserably. I cant see any reason to see how things will change this year. If the Dee's make the 8 they wont get past week 2 of the finals. Just like last year.

I was implying you're sitting on the fence. It's a prediction thread as to what you think might happen this year, so i found it somewhat pointless that you named 3 teams that might be a chance, then concluded "it's too early to tell". Sort of defeats the purpose, don't you think?
